Torche was an American heavy metal band from Miami, Florida. The group formed in 2004 and has released five full-length studio albums, four EPs, two split albums, and three singles. They released their fifth full-length studio album, ''Admission'', on July 12, 2019. Biography The group was formed in 2004 by Steve Brooks (ex- Floor), Juan Montoya (ex-Floor, ex-Cavity, ex-Ed Matus Struggle), Jonathan Nuñez and Rick Smith (who also played in the grindcore bands Shitstorm, Tyranny of Shaw, Adore Miridia, the screamo band Tunes for Bears to Dance To, and punk band Post-Teens). According to MTracks.com: "Their music has a unique, hard-hitting sound that provokes a wide range of emotions, and they have a large fan base throughout the world." Torche / Part Chimp
''Torche / Part Chimp'' is a split EP between the American metal band Torche and British rock band Part Chimp. The album was released on November 5, 2011, through Chunklet Industries—a date which coincided with a tour of the eastern United States featuring both bands. The vinyl edition of the album was limited to 500 copies. Torche's side of the record features three cover songs of the American indie rock band Guided by Voices, and Part Chimp's side features two newly recorded songs. Part Chimp's songs are also some of the final tracks they recorded before disbanding. The split EP received average to positive reviews from music critics. Jason Heller of ''Alternative Press'' praised Torche's choice to cover three Guided by Voices songs, and noted that the two artists are, "surprisingly sympathetic pop titans separated only by volume and age." ''Restarter'' is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Torche. The album was released on February 24, 2015, through Relapse Records. ''Restarter'' was produced by Jonathan Nunez of Torche and mixed by Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou. Promotion and release To promote the release of the album, Relapse worked with the band to create a 16-bit video game called "Torche vs Robots: Annihilation Affair". In the game, players act as one of the members of Torche to destroy the robots which have taken over the city. Fans were invited to upload videos of themselves beating the game—fans demonstrating the fastest time with each band member before the official release of the album would win a prize package including ''Restarter'' on vinyl, a Torche T-shirt, two tickets to see the band on tour, and a set of Torche stickers. Kurt Ballou
Kurt Ballou (born February 1, 1974) is an American musician and producer based in Massachusetts, best known as the guitarist for hardcore punk band Converge and for his prolific recording and production work at his own GodCity Studio. Early and personal life Kurt Ballou started playing saxophone in elementary school. He performed in jazz band, concert band and orchestra, dabbling between baritone saxophone, bassoon and bass clarinet. Ballou was accepted to join the Hartford School of Music, but he opted to study aerospace engineering instead. His father used to have a guitar that Ballou played occasionally, but it did not interest him until a school friend gave him Slayer tapes around the age of sixteen.
