Harker is an England, English surname. Some genealogical records show that the origin of Harker comes from the North West England, North-West regions of England - North of the Lake District. Speculation is that Harker is the result of the combination of Romanized hyphenation of the surnames Hart (other), Hart or Hare and Kerr (other), Kerr. (Hart - a type of stag; Hare - a rabbit; Kerr - a marshland.) It is also assumed that the Harker family were Romanization (cultural), Romanized subjects who lived on both sides of Hadrian's Wall in that area. Harkers can be found mostly in Northern England. In the United States, there are concentrations of Harkers living in communities across the Rocky Mountains from Mexico to Canada. Slade National Wildlife Refuge is a National Wildlife Refuge in Kidder County, North Dakota. It was established in 1941 when the property was donated by G.T. Slade, a Northern Pacific Railroad executive. It is managed under the Long Lake National Wildlife Refuge. It contains Harker Lake and Upper Harker Lake. History Historically, the marshes and wetlands south of the town of Dawson, North Dakota support a large quantity of migratory waterfowl, which have attracted hunters. George Theron Slade, Third Vice President of the Northern Pacific Railroad, enjoyed hunting game birds in the area. Harker Glacier
Harker Glacier is a tidewater glacier on South Georgia Island in the southern Atlantic Ocean. Harker glacier was first mapped by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition (1901–1904), and named De Geer Glacier, after Gerard De Geer (1858–1943), a Swedish geologist who specialized in geomorphology and geochronology. It was remapped in 1912 by David Ferguson, and renamed for Alfred Harker (1859–1939), an English geologist who specialised in petrology and petrography. The valley in which Harker Glacier is located drains from south to north out of the Allardyce Range into Moraine Fjord in the eastern side of Cumberland Bay, south of Grytviken, the principal settlement of the island. Harker Glacier is a tidewater glacier that contributes icebergs to the bay. Saint Johns Range () is a crescent-shaped mountain range about long, in Victoria Land, Antarctica. It is bounded on the north by the Cotton Glacier, Miller Glacier and Debenham Glacier, and on the south by Victoria Valley and the Victoria Upper Glacier and Victoria Lower Glacier. Name Saint Johns Range was named by the New Zealand Northern Survey Party of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE), 1956–58, which surveyed peaks in the range in 1957. Harker Park Lake is located on the northwest face of Burro Mountain in Rio Blanco County, Colorado, United States.
