Harbour Publishing is a Canadian independent book publisher. The company was founded in 1974 by Howard and Mary White, and is based in Pender Harbour, a small town on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast. Harbour mainly publishes books on British Columbian history, culture, wildlife and environment. As of 2024, Harbour has published over 1000 titles. Harbour Publishing is the exclusive distributor for Nightwood Editions, Bluefield Books and Lost Moose Books. In 2013, the owners of Harbour acquired Douglas & McIntyre Douglas and McIntyre (2013) Ltd. is a Canadian book publishing firm. Bus Griffiths
Gilbert Joseph "Bus" Griffiths (1913 – September 25, 2006) was a cartoonist, lumberjack, and fisherman. He was best known for his graphic novel ''Now You're Logging'', published 1978 by Harbour Publishing. ''Now You're Logging'' presented, in cartoon form, a complete look at the techniques, tools, and personalities of logging on the West Coast in the 1930s. He began drawing cartoons while working as a logger, doing work for Vancouver's Maple Leaf Publishing during World War II and comic strips about logging for ''BC Lumberman'' magazine. He retired from logging in 1961 and began work as a commercial fisherman. In 1972 he began work on ''Now You're Logging'' to document logging in the era before modern technology. Roy Henry Vickers
Roy Henry Vickers, (born June 1946 in Laxgalts'ap (formerly known as Greenville), British Columbia) is a Grammy Award nominated Canadian First Nations artist. He owns and operates a gallery in Tofino, British Columbia. Biography Vickers was born on the Nass River but raised in Kitkatla, Hazelton, British Columbia, and Victoria, B.C. His father was a fisherman who was matrilineally Tsimshian, also with Haida and Heiltsuk ancestry. His mother was a schoolteacher whose parents had emigrated from England and who was in the 1940s adopted into the Eagle clan at Kitkatla, B.C. (making Roy also Eagle). His grandfather was a Kitkatla canoe-carver. The paintings and works that he has created reflect this mixed heritage as his work has many elements of the traditional art of the First Nations peoples of the Pacific Northwest, but remains distinctive. Howard White (writer)
Franklin Howard White, (born 1945 in Abbotsford, British Columbia) is a Canadian writer, editor and publisher. In the early 1970s, he founded the Raincoast Chronicles and Harbour Publishing. In 2013 he and his wife Mary purchased the assets of the leading British Columbia book publisher Douglas & McIntyre and restructured it as Douglas & McIntyre (2013) Ltd. with White as publisher. He has been president of the Association of Book Publishers of British Columbia, a member of the Board of Governors of Emily Carr University of Art and Design, the Advisory Board of the Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing at Simon Fraser University and the Advisory Board of the Institute for Coastal Research at Vancouver Island University.
