''Happyend'' is a 2024 Japanese-American drama film, written and directed by Neo Sora. It stars Kurihara Hayato, Hidaka Yukito, Ayumu Nakajima, Makiko Watanabe and Shirō Sano. It had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2024, in the Orizzonti section, and is scheduled to be released in Japan on October 4, 2024, by Bitters End. Premise Set in near-future Tokyo, two best friends are about to graduate high school, while threats of an earthquake looms. One night, they pull a prank on their principal, leading to a surveillance system being installed. They respond in contrasting ways. Neo Sora
Neo Sora (born 1991) is an American film director and screenwriter. He has directed narrative and documentary films, including '' Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus'' (2023) and ''Happyend'' (2024). Early life Sora was born to manager Norika Sora, and film composer Ryuichi Sakamoto in New York, New York, and was raised in both New York and Tokyo. Sora graduated from Wesleyan University in Philosophy and Film Studies. Career Sora is a member of the filmmaking collective Zakkubalan alongside Albert Tholen and Aiko Masubuchi. Sora has directed music videos for Shuta Hasunuma & U-zhaan, BIGYUKI, Rachika S and Biki Zoom, Anthony Naples, Beta Librae, Jason Moran and Dairo Suga. Ayumu Nakajima
is a Japanese actor. Early life Ayumu Nakajima was born on October 7, 1988, in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, but he grew up in Tokyo. Nakajima great-great-grandfather was Kunikida Doppo. Nakajima went to Koishikawa High School and later got a degree in literature from Nihon University. Back in high school, he played football, and during his university days, he was part of a rakugo study group. Career A Nakajima started modeling since he was still in college, but his real dream was to become an actor. During his modeling days, he was represented by Gig Management. He quit modeling in January 2012 and started auditioning for roles while working part-time jobs. He made his acting debut on stage in April 2013.
