Hans Langmaack
Prof. Dr. Hans Langmaack (born 7 May 1934 at Hof Helle in the Steinburg district) is a Germany, German mathematician and computer scientist. Life Hans Langmaack attended the Bismarck School in Elmshorn, where he received a prize in natural sciences (the Ernst Hermann Koelln Prize, 1951) and, before graduating from high school in 1954, completed an analog computer for spherical trigonometry as a mathematical year's work. After an internship in mechanical engineering, he studied mathematics, physics, and logic at the University of Münster (and one semester in Freiburg) from the winter semester of 1954. In 1957, he passed the teaching examination, became a scholarship holder of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation, and received his doctorate in 1960 under Heinrich Behnke with a dissertation on analysis in several complex variables (construction of holomorphic hulls of unramified regions over \mathbb C^n). Steinburg
Steinburg () is a district in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, administered from Itzehoe. It is bounded by (from the west and clockwise) the districts of Dithmarschen, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Segeberg and Pinneberg, and by the Elbe River (and the district of Stade beyond). History The district's name is derived from a medieval castle called Steinburg, where the reeves ruled by order of their lords, the dukes of Holstein. This castle was first mentioned in 1307, and it was abandoned and demolished in 1630. However, Steinburg remained the name of the region, and its new centre became Glückstadt before gradually moving to the town of Itzehoe. When Schleswig-Holstein became a province of Prussia in 1867, the district of Steinburg was established. The borders remained unchanged until 1970 when the newly founded town Schenefeld (formerly part of Rendsburg district) joined Steinburg. Algol 60
ALGOL 60 (short for ''Algorithmic Language 1960'') is a member of the ALGOL family of computer programming languages. It followed on from ALGOL 58 which had introduced code blocks and the begin and end pairs for delimiting them, representing a key advance in the rise of structured programming. ALGOL 60 was one of the first languages implementing function definitions (that could be invoked recursively). Klaus Samelson
Klaus Samelson (21 December 1918 – 25 May 1980) was a German mathematician, physicist, and computer pioneer in the area of programming language translation and push-pop stack algorithms for sequential formula translation on computers. Early life He was born in Strasbourg, Alsace-Lorraine, and he lived in Breslau in his early childhood years. His elder brother was the mathematician Hans Samelson. Due to political circumstances, he waited until 1946 to study mathematics and physics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in Munich. Heinrich Adolph Louis Behnke (9 October 1898 in Horn – 10 October 1979 in Münster) was a German mathematician and rector at the University of Münster. Life and career He was born into a Lutheran family in Horn, a suburb of Hamburg. He attended the University of Göttingen and submitted his doctoral thesis to the University of Hamburg. He was noted for work on complex analysis with Henri Cartan and Peter Thullen. His first wife, Aenne Albersheim, was Jewish, but she died soon after the birth of their son.
