Hans L. C. Huitfeldt
Hans Ludvig Carl Huitfeldt (17 February 1876 – 30 June 1969) was a Norwegian physician. He graduated as cand.med. in 1902, and later took the dr.med. degree. He worked in Gjøvik from 1902 to 1904, and thereafter in Oslo, running a private clinic from 1908 to 1940. He founded the cancer treatment clinic ''Kristiania Radium-Institutt'' in 1912, and was later instrumental in the foundation of the Radiumhospitalet, Norwegian Radium Hospital. From its foundation in 1932 to 1956 he chaired the board of directors. Huitfeldt was also physician-in-ordinary of the Norwegian royal family. During the German occupation of Norway, the royal family was chased into exile, while Huitfeldt was imprisoned at Grini concentration camp, Grini between January and June 1942. Huitfeldt was a Knight of the Order of St. Olav and the Swedish Order of the Polar Star. The ''Great Norwegian Encyclopedia'' ( no, Store Norske Leksikon, abbreviated ''SNL''), is a Norwegian-language online encyclopedia. The online encyclopedia is among the most-read Norwegian published sites, with more than two million unique visitors per month. Paper editions 1978–2007 The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. Grini Concentration Camp Survivors
Grini is a district in northeastern Bærum, Norway. Concentration camp The name Grini is best known from the concentration camp of the same name, but this camp lay further west and had no actual connection to the Grini area. History The name Grini is a variant of ''Granvin'' ( a placename used elsewhere), and stems from spruce trees in the area. The Old Norse form was Grǫnin. The farm Grini is known at least since 1348, when it was parted into a northern and a southern part. Both farms belonged to the Church of Norway, but the crown usurped the property following the Protestant Reformation. The dwelling house was erected in 1658, three years before the property was sold from the crown to a private person. Between the mid-seventeenth century and the mid-nineteenth century the property was owned by the Leuch, Anker and Wedel-Jarlsberg families. Amandus Schibsted
Amandus Theodor Schibsted (5 May 1849 in Oslo, – 7 May 1913) was the owner and chief editor of '' Aftenposten''. He inherited the news paper from his father, Christian Schibsted, in 1879, but worked as a journalist in the same news paper from 1871. During his leadership the news paper developed to be Norway's leading and most widespread conservative daily. He gained distinction through well-organised, quick and reliable news service. When Amandus died in 1913, his wife Susane Adolphine Cathrine Schibsted (1849–1933) took over the ownership in the newspaper. Amandus Schibsted is buried at Vår Frelsers gravlund in Oslo. Henrik Jørgen Huitfeldt-Kaas (2 February 1834 – 18 May 1905) was a Norwegian historian and Director-General of the National Archives of Norway (''riksarkivar''). Huitfeldt-Kaas was born in Christiania (now Oslo, Norway). He was a member of both the Danish noble Huitfeldt and Kaas families. He was descended from Lieutenant-General Henrik Jørgen Huitfeldt and Birgitte Christine Kaas. Originally named ''Henrik Jørgen Huitfeldt'', he adopted the name Huitfeldt-Kaas in 1881 when he gained an inheritance from Det Classenske Fideicommis, a charitable foundation which was founded by Danish industrialist and Major General Johan Frederik Classen who had died in 1792. The Royal Order of the Polar Star (Swedish: ''Kungliga Nordstjärneorden'') is a Swedish order of chivalry created by King Frederick I on 23 February 1748, together with the Order of the Sword and the Order of the Seraphim. The Order of the Polar Star was until 1975 intended as a reward for Swedish and foreign "civic merits, for devotion to duty, for science, literary, learned and useful works and for new and beneficial institutions". Its motto is, as seen on the blue enameled centre of the badge, ''Nescit Occasum'', a Latin phrase meaning "It knows no decline".
