Hans Gissinger
Hans Gissinger (born 1946) is a Swiss photographer whose work spans commercial, editorial, and fine-art photography. His photographs have been featured in various publications and projects, including the cover of Michael Pollan's book ''The Omnivore's Dilemma''. Early life and education Gissinger was born in Zurich, Switzerland, where he completed his secondary education. Following military service, he traveled throughout Europe, engaging in various professions before returning to Switzerland in 1970 to work in the film and photography department of Pro Helvetia, a Swiss governmental cultural-exchange foundation. Career In 1972, Gissinger moved to Vézelay in the Burgundy region of France. Michael Pollan
Michael Kevin Pollan (; born February 6, 1955) is an American journalist who is a professor and the first Lewis K. Chan Arts Lecturer at Harvard University. Concurrently, he is the Knight Professor of Science and Environmental Journalism and the director of the Knight Program in Science and Environmental Journalism at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism where in 2020 he cofounded the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics, in which he leads the public-education program. The Omnivore's Dilemma
''The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals'' is a nonfiction book written by American author Michael Pollan published in 2006. As omnivores, humans have a variety of food choices. In the book, Pollan investigates the environmental and animal welfare effects of various food choices. He suggests that, prior to modern food preservation and transportation technologies, the dilemmas caused by these options were resolved primarily by cultural influences. Technology has made foods that were previously seasonal or regional available year-round and in all regions. The relationship between food and society, once moderated by culture, is now confused. Marc Meneau (16 March 1943 – 9 December 2020) was a French chef, who earned three stars from the Guide Michelin. He was the chef of the restaurant ''L'Espérance'' located in Saint-Père, Yonne. Early life Meneau was born in Avallon on 16 March 1943. A native of Burgundy, Meneau never really departed his native region. Going to Strasbourg in 1961 to join a hotel school, he then returned to take over the grocery store of his mother, Marguerite, located in Saint-Père in the town of Vézelay.
