Jimmy Hannan (25 August 1937 – 7 January 2019) was an Australian radio and television personality, variety show host, singer, entertainer and game show host of the 1960s and 1970s. One of the pioneers of television, he appeared regularly on variety show ''In Melbourne Tonight'', and later hosted his own musical variety show ''Jimmy'', later called ''Tonight with Jimmy Hannan''. Hannan hosted music show '' Saturday Date'' from 1963 until 1967, which featured such performers as Billy Thorpe and Olivia Newton-John. He won the 1965 Gold Logie award for most popular personality on Australian television. Early life and career Hannan had his start musically performing in a big-band. Patrick Hannan (baptised 26 April 1840 – 4 November 1925) was a gold prospector whose lucrative discovery on 14 June 1893 set off a major gold rush in the area now known as Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia. The resulting goldfield has been mined ever since and is renowned as ''The Golden Mile'', the richest square mile in the world. The modern open-cut mine is a vast, astonishing sight known as the Super Pit. Edward Neil Anthony Hannon (born 7 November 1970) is a singer and songwriter from Northern Ireland. He is the founder and frontman of the chamber pop group the Divine Comedy, and is the band's only constant member since its inception in 1989. Michael Francis Hannan (born 1949) is an Australian composer, keyboardist, and musicologist. Described in ''Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians'' as a composer "exceptionally gifted for the exploration of tonal, polytonal, and atonal techniques", Hannan is also the author of a critical biography of the Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe. He has been a music professor at Southern Cross University since 1986. Life and career Hannan was born in Newcastle, New South Wales. He studied musicology at the University of Sydney where he received his BA in 1972 and his PhD in 1979, followed by a diploma in music composition in 1982. Mary Josephine Hannan LRCPI & SI &LM (c1865–c1935) was the first Irishwoman to graduate LRCPI & SI and LM. Career Almost nothing is known about Hannan's early life or who her parents were. Hannan was one of the first women to study in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She graduated in 1890 while living in Riverstown, Killucan, County Westmeath. By 1892 she had moved to India and was working in the Victoria Hospital, Kotah State and then the Dufferin Hospital, Ulwar State. In 1894 she became Chief medical officer in the Lady Dufferin Hospital in Shikarpar, Upper Sind. At this time she was appointed the honorary medical adviser to the The Salvation Army.
