Hannes Taljaard
Hannes Taljaard, born Daniël Johannes Taljaard (born 1971) is a South African classical music composer from Siloam, Venda. Taljaard's compositions have been performed in South Africa and Europe and he won first prize in the Flores Iuventutis competition in Ghent, Belgium, in 1994–1995. He is senior lecturer in composition and composer-in-residence at the School of Music & Conservatory at North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa. He has taken masterclasses with American composer George Crumb and has taken private lessons with Belgian composer Wim Henderickx in Antwerp from 1996 to 2000. He has also attended the Darmstadt New Music Summer School. He is editor of academic publication ''The South African Music Teacher''. The continent of Africa is vast and its music is diverse, with different regions and nations having many distinct musical traditions. Composer
A composer is a person who writes music. The term is especially used to indicate composers of Western classical music, or those who are composers by occupation. Many composers are, or were, also skilled performers of music. Etymology and definition The term is descended from Latin, ''compōnō''; literally "one who puts together". Wim Henderickx
Wim Henderickx (; 17 March 196218 December 2022) was a Belgian composer of contemporary classical music. He was composer in residence at Muziektheater Transparant and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, writing operas and other stage works. His music was influenced by oriental music and philosophy. He taught composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Life and career Henderickx was born in Lier and began his music career as a jazz and rock drummer. He studied percussion and composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, graduating in percussion in 1984, and in composition in 1992 with Willem Kersters. He studied sonology at IRCAM and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In the 1990s he also attended the Darmstädter Ferienkurse.
