Hanne Varming
Hanne Varming née Larsen (13 May 1939 – 30 October 2022) was a Danish sculptor and medallist. Her works include statues of celebrities such as Victor Borge but generally depict ordinary people or even her own children. Her portraits of Queen Margrethe II can be seen on the Danish 10 and 20 crown pieces. Her representation of an old couple sitting on a bench in Copenhagen's Kultorvet is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's ''Hyldemoer'' or ''The Little Elder-Tree Mother''. Biography Born on 13 May 1939 in Copenhagen, Hanne Varming is the daughter of the registrar Viggo Larsen (1911–1997) and Inger Øllgaard (born 1914). In 1962, she married the sculptor Erik Varming (born 1942) with whom she had four children: Johan Ludvig (1964), Signe Marie (1965), Karen Margrethe (1969) and Hans Jacob (1972). Medallist
A medalist (or medallist) is an artist who designs medals, plaquettes, badges, metal medallions, coins and similar small works in relief in metal. Historically, medalists were typically also involved in producing their designs, and were usually either sculptors or goldsmiths by background. In modern times, medalists are mostly primarily sculptors of larger works, but in the past the number of medals and coins produced were sufficient to support specialists who spent most of their career producing them. Herlev is a suburb about 9 km northwest of Copenhagen city centre. It is the site of the municipal council of Herlev Municipality, Denmark. Værløse () is a town in Furesø Municipality in the northwestern outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark. As of 1 January 2022, it has a population of 13,069. Situated on the west side of the Hillerød Motorway, between Farum Lake to the north and Søndersø Lake to the south, it is surrounded by forest on three sides. The Order of the Dannebrog ( da, Dannebrogordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as ''White Knights'' to distinguish them from the ''Blue Knights'' who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The ''Grand Commander'' class is reserved to persons of princely origin. It is awarded only to royalty with close family ties with the Danish Royal House. Tagea Brandts Rejselegat
The Tagea Brandts ''Rejselegat'' (Travel Scholarship) is a Danish award to women who have made a significant contribution in science, literature or art. The grant, which is given without application, was created and endowed by Danish industrialist Vilhelm Brandt (1854–1921) in 1905 in honor of his wife, Tagea Brandt. It is awarded annually on 17 March, her birthday. The charter of 1922 provides that it shall be given to outstanding women in science, art, music, literature and theater arts (particularly in this case to actresses at the Royal Danish Theatre). The intent is for the awardee to both broaden her horizons while promoting Danish society abroad, and to benefit from vacation and rest time. The first scholarships were given in 1924; the first time the amount was DKK 10.000, in 1958 it was increased to DKK 15.000, in 1967 to 25.000, later to 50,000, and currently it is DKK 75.000, which usually is given to 2-3 women annually. Kastrupgård
Kastrupgård is a former manor house in Kastrup, a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark. Dating from the mid 18th century, it is now a museum housing the Kastrupgård Collection (''Kastrupgårdsamlingen'') of modern art, which is owned and operated by Tårnby Municipality. History and architecture Kastrupgård was designed in rococo style by sculptor and architect Jacob Fortling (1711-1761) for his own use. It was built between 1749 to 1753. Fortling came to Denmark from Germany and became royal master builder and sculptor to the Danish Royal Court. He also founded the nearby Kastrup Pottery and Tile Works (''Kastrup Værk'').
