Hannah Scott (rower)
Hannah Elizabeth Scott (born 18 June 1999) is a rower from Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Scott has received three medals from the European Rowing Championships between 2021 and 2024 in the quadruple sculls. At the World Rowing U23 Championships, she was second in the pairs event during 2018 and third in women's eight during 2019. Her quadruple sculls team were first at the 2023 World Rowing Championships and the 2024 Summer Olympics. Lauren Henry (rower)
Lauren Henry (born 21 December 2001) is an Olympic gold medallist and world champion British rower. Career Henry took the overall win in the British Rowing Senior Trials 2023 in the W1x, whilst still an U23 eligible athlete. Henry won a bronze medal in her first senior event; in the quadruple sculls at the 2023 European Rowing Championships. At the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, she won the World Championship gold medal in the Quadruple sculls with Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott and Georgina Brayshaw. The team won the gold medal in the quadruple sculls at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Henry moved into the single sculls after the Paris Games. Eight (rowing)
An eight, abbreviated as an 8+, is a racing shell used in competitive rowing (crew). It is designed for eight rowers, who propel the boat with sweep oars, and is steered by a coxswain, or "cox". Each of the eight rowers has one oar. The rowers sit in a line in the centre of the boat and face the stern. They are usually placed alternately, with four on the port side (rower's right hand side – also traditionally known as "stroke side") and four on the starboard side (rower's lefthand side – known as "bow side"). The cox steers the boat using a rudder and is normally seated at the stern of the boat. A double scull, also abbreviated as a 2x, is a rowing boat used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for two persons who propel the boat by sculling with two oars each, one in each hand. Racing boats (often called "shells") are long, narrow, and broadly semicircular in cross-section in order to reduce drag to a minimum. They usually have a fin towards the rear, to help prevent roll and yaw. Originally made from wood, shells are now almost always made from a composite material (usually carbon-fibre reinforced plastic) for strength and weight advantages. Coxless Four
A coxless four, abbreviated as a 4- and also called a straight four, is a racing shell used in the sport of competitive rowing. It is designed for four persons who propel the boat with sweep oars, without a coxswain. The crew consists of four rowers, each having one oar. There are two rowers on the stroke side (rower's right hand side) and two on the bow side (rower's lefthand side). As there is no coxswain, the rudder is controlled by one of the crew, normally with the rudder cable attached to the toe of one of their shoes which can pivot about the ball of the foot, moving the cable left or right. The steersman may row at bow, who has the best vision when looking over their shoulder, or on straighter courses stroke may steer, since they can point the stern of the boat at some landmark at the start of the course.
