Ned Hanlon (politician)
Edward Michael Hanlon (1 October 1887 – 15 January 1952) was an Australian politician and soldier, who was Premier of Queensland from 1946 until his death in 1952. Hanlon was born in Brisbane in the Colony of Queensland to Irish immigrant parents. He lived there throughout his life. After leaving school, he worked in the railways, and soon became a union official. In the 1912 Brisbane General Strike he played a prominent part as a militant. Between 1915 and 1919 Hanlon served in the 9th Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division of the Australian Imperial Force, whose traditions and battle honours are proudly carried by the modern 9th Battalion, Royal Queensland Regiment. He served under Captain Cec Carroll during the war; in 1934 Hanlon (then Minister for Home Affairs) would appoint Carroll as the Queensland Police Commissioner. Tommy Hanlon Jr. (14 August 1923 – 9 October 2003) was an American-born actor, comedian, television host and circus ringmaster, notable for his career in Australia after emigrating there in 1959, where he became a Gold Logie-award-winning media personality, in 1962. Richard Kenneth Hanlon (born 26 May 1978) is an English former footballer who played as a midfielder. He played in the Football League with Southend United, Peterborough United, Rushden & Diamonds and Lincoln City. Hanlon also played non-League football with Welling United, Stevenage Borough, Weymouth and Cambridge United. He was forced to retire aged 28 with a knee injury. Paul Thomas Hanlon (born 20 January 1990) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Scottish Premiership club Hibernian, where he is the current club captain, and the Scotland national team. He began his senior career with Hibernian, making his debut in 2008, and has gone to make over 500 appearances for the club. He also briefly played for St Johnstone on loan during the 2008–09 season. Ned Hanlon (baseball)
Edward Hugh Hanlon (August 22, 1857 – April 14, 1937), also known as "Foxy Ned", and sometimes referred to as "The Father of Modern Baseball," was an American professional baseball player and manager whose career spanned from 1876 to 1914. He was posthumously inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996 by the Veterans Committee. Hanlon was a manager in Major League Baseball from 1889 to 1907, compiling a 1,313–1,164 (.530) record with five different clubs. He is best remembered as the manager of the Baltimore Orioles (1892–1898) and Brooklyn Superbas (1899–1905). In the seven seasons from 1894 to 1900, Hanlon compiled a 635–315 () record, and his teams won five National League pennants. John Hanlon (born 1949) is a New Zealand singer and songwriter.
