Hank Herring
Horace H. "Hank" Herring (June 19, 1922 – May 18, 1999) was an American boxing, boxer. Herring was the Welterweight Silver Medalist at the 1948 London Olympic Games. Herring lost in the final to Július Torma of Czechoslovakia. Early life and military service Herring was born in St. Petersburg, Florida. He joined the United States Navy, where he achieved the rank of steward chief petty officer. He was stationed at Naval Station San Diego, California and was one of the first U.S. Navy enlisted sailors to participate in the Olympic Games. Július Torma
Július Torma (7 March 1922, Budapest – 23 October 1991, Prague) was a Slovaks, Slovak boxing, boxer competing for Czechoslovakia. He won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1948 for Czechoslovakia in the category up to 67 kg. He competed in three consecutive Summer Olympics (1948, 1952 and 1956). Torma defeated Hank Herring of the United States in the 1948 final. Torma also competed as a welterweight in 1952, losing in the quarterfinals; and in 1956, as a Middleweight. He was born in Budapest and died in Prague.
