On September 6, 2006, the company and several brands were spun off by the Sara Lee Corporation. Playtex
Playtex is an American brand name for undergarments, baby products, gloves, feminine hygiene products, and sunscreen. The brand began in 1947 when International Latex Corporation (ILC) created a division named Playtex to produce and sell latex products. Playtex was the first to advertise undergarments on national television in 1955, written by Howard Shavelson at Ogilvy and Mather, and the first to show a woman wearing only a bra from the waist up in a commercial in 1977. They developed space suits for the Apollo program. Playtex-branded tampons were introduced in the 1960s and became the primary competition to incumbent Tampax. Hanes (founded in 1900) and Hanes Her Way (founded in 1985) is an American clothing brand headquartered in Winston-Salem. Founded in 1900 as Shamrock Knitting Mills by John Wesley Hanes, the company is owned by Hanes, Inc. History Hanes was founded in 1900 by John Wesley Hanes (one of Winston-Salem's wealthiest and most influential businessmen) at Winston Salem, North Carolina under the name Shamrock Knitting Mills. He died of heart trouble in 1903. Pacific Brands Underwear Group, known under its core brand Bonds, was an Australian manufacturer and is now a subsidiary of Hanesbrands. It is an importer of men's, women's and children's underwear, socks and other clothing. The head office is located at 115 Cotham Rd in Kew, Melbourne. Berlei is a brand of women's lingerie and in particular Brassiere, bras and girdles. History The company began in Sydney in 1910. The Berlei brand originated in 1917. Maidenform Brands is a manufacturer of women's bras, underwear, and shapewear founded in 1922. History The company was founded in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1922 and sought to appeal to the flapper subculture of the time. Maidenform converted factories during World War II in order to produce pigeon vests and parachutes. Pigeon vests, sometimes called pigeon bras, attached war pigeons to paratroopers' chests so that the paratrooper could land in a war zone and release the bird, which would fly away carrying a message. Wonderbra
The Wonderbra is a type of push-up underwire brassiere that gained worldwide prominence in the 1990s. Although the Wonderbra name was first trademarked in the U.S. in 1955, the brand was developed in Canada. Moses (Moe) Nadler, founder and majority owner of the Canadian Lady Corset Company, licensed the trademark for the Canadian market in 1939. L'eggs
L'eggs is a brand of pantyhose, introduced in 1969 by Hanes. The novel developments were the egg-shaped plastic product container, the shift to consignment sales in drug stores and groceries, and the in-store product racks designed to emphasize the egg shape. The brand logo hinted at a pair of chicks or eggs in the lettering. L'eggs was an immediate success, knocking out many competitors and becoming a tremendous profit stream for Hanes. Customers liked the egg-style packaging and the convenience of buying pantyhose closer to home during their usual errands. Celebrity endorsements helped to keep the brand in the forefront.
