Handball Goalkeeper
The handball goalkeeper is the most defensive player of their team. Their main task is to prevent the other team from scoring a goal. Equipment To avoid confusion, a handball goalkeeper must wear a jersey that is different in colour to all the other jerseys of the players on the field, including the other team's goalkeeper. If such a jersey is not available the goalkeeper must wear a bib (garment), bib that guarantees sufficient distinction between players involved. Most goalkeepers also wear special long trousers and male goalkeepers always wear a jockstrap (an undergarment serving protection purposes). Rule 4:9 (concerning equipment during the game) states that it is mandatory for the players to wear sports shoes during the games. Unlike in football, handball goalkeepers do not wear gloves. Handball
Handball (also known as team handball, European handball, Olympic handball or indoor handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The goals are surrounded by a zone where only the defending goalkeeper is allowed; goals must be scored by throwing the ball from outside the zone or while "diving" into it. Thierry Omeyer (born 2 November 1976) is a retired French handball goalkeeper. A member of the French national team since 1999, he has won all major titles with the team: world champion (five times), European champion (three times) and Olympic champion twice. He is widely considered to be one of the best handball goalkeepers of all time, and was the third goalkeeper so far to have been elected best player of the world by the International Handball Federation (the two others being Henning Fritz, in 2004, and Árpád Sterbik, in 2005, since Niklas Landin in 2021), what he achieved in 2008. Andrey Lavrov
Andrey Ivanovich Lavrov (; born March 26, 1962, in Krasnodar) is a Russian former handball goalkeeper and a three-time Olympic gold medalist. Lavrov is also one of only a few athletes to have won Olympic gold medals for three different teams, clinching gold for the Soviet Union in 1988, the Unified Team in 1992, and for Russia in 2000. Four years later, at the age of 42, he won his fourth Olympic medal, another unique feat for a handball player, when his Russian team earned third place and the bronze medals at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Lavrov was a long-time captain for the Russian handball team, and served as the flagbearer for the Russian athletes at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Summer Olympics. Niklas Landin Jacobsen (born 19 December 1988) is a Danish handballer for Aalborg Håndbold. He is European Champion with the Danish national team, after winning the 2012 Championship in Serbia, defeating the host nation in the final, 21–19. Niklas Landin was the captain of the Denmark national team from 2012 until his retirement from the national team in 2024. Peter Gentzel
Hans Peter Ludvig Gentzel (born 12 October 1968) is a Swedish former handball player who competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was named Swedish male player of the year in 1998 and in 2003 he was number two in the IHF World player of the year, receiving 29.5% of the votes. In 2000, he was a member of the Swedish handball team that won the silver medal in the Olympic tournament. He played all eight matches as goalkeeper. Henning Fritz (born 21 September 1974) is a German retired handball goalkeeper, current entrepreneur, book author and TV expert. Johannes Bitter (born 2 September 1982) is a German handball goalkeeper for HSV Hamburg. Club career Bitter started his senior career with SG VTB Altjührden in 1999, before moving to Wilhelmshavener HV three years later. Mirko Bašić (born 14 September 1960) is a Croatian former Team handball, handball player who competed for Yugoslavia men's national handball team, Yugoslavia in the 1984 Summer Olympics and in the 1988 Summer Olympics. David Barrufet
David Barrufet Bofill (born 4 June 1970 in Barcelona, Spain) is a former Spanish handball goalkeeper and current handball coach. Until 2021 he had the record for most matches for the Spanish national team until he was overtaken by Alberto Entrerríos. He played his entire career for FC Barcelona. He is considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time. , and in 2001 he came second World best player voting. He began playing handball in SAFA Horta school in Barcelona at 8 years old.
