Hampton Hall (Woodville, Mississippi)
Hampton Hall is a historic mansion in Woodville, Mississippi, USA. History The land belonged to John Brown until he sold it to Hugh Connell in 1820. Connell built the house circa 1825–1832. It was purchased by Susan Davis in 1847, followed by Daniel Hoard in 1849. When he died in 1869, it was inherited by his widow, Verona Regular, followed by her niece Joan McManus in 1875. One of her daughters, Blanche McManus, became a noted children's author, and inherited the house with her two sisters in 1909. She did the murals in the parlour. The house was purchased by Maxwell Bramlette in 1947. It was inherited by David Clay Bramlette III in 1976. Woodville is a town in and the county seat of Wilkinson County, Mississippi, United States. Its population as of 2020 was 928. History This historic town, one of the oldest in Mississippi, is set among the rolling hills and pastures of Wilkinson County, just north of the Louisiana-Mississippi border in the southwest corner of the state. It was incorporated in 1811, after the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 and not long before Mississippi's admission to the United States in 1817. It was developed along the historic corridor between St. Francisville, Louisiana, 24 miles to the south and Natchez, Mississippi, 34 miles to the north. Since pre-colonial times, communities within this corridor have been linked, first by the Lower Natchez Trace, a footpath and portage developed by Native Americans and serving the east bank of the Mississippi River. Blanche McManus
Blanche McManus (1869–1935) was an American writer and artist. She and her husband, Milburg Francisco Mansfield wrote a series of illustrated travel books, many of which included information about automobiles which were new at the time. Biography McManus was born on Talledega Plantation, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, in 1870 and died in Louisiana on June 13, 1935. McManus inherited Hampton Hall, a historic mansion in Woodville, Mississippi, with her two sisters in 1909. She did the murals in the parlor.
