Hamish Purdy
Hamish Purdy (born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is a Canadian art director and set decorator. He attended UVic and UBC before making the move into film and TV. Purdy has worked on several well-known films, including Man of Steel in 2013, Watchmen in 2009 and Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011. When interviewed about his work, he claims that he takes inspiration from other excellent set designs, as well as when he successfully completes a piece of work. He was nominated at the 88th Academy Awards in the category of Best Production Design for his work on the film '' The Revenant''. His nomination was shared with Jack Fisk. Art director is the title for a variety of similar job functions in theater, advertising, marketing, publishing, fashion, film and television, the Internet, and video games. It is the charge of a sole art director to supervise and unify the vision of an artistic production. In particular, they are in charge of its overall visual appearance and how it communicates visually, stimulates moods, contrasts features, and psychologically appeals to a target audience. The set decorator is the head of the set decoration department in the film and television industry, responsible for selecting, designing, fabricating, and sourcing the " set dressing" elements of each set in a Feature Film, Television, or New Media episode or commercial, in support of the story and characters of the script. The set decorator is responsible for each décor element inside the sets, from practical lighting, technology, art, furniture, drapery, floor coverings, books, collectables, to exterior furnishings such as satellite dishes, Old West water troughs, streetlamps, traffic lights, garden furniture and sculptures. The Academy Award for Best Production Design recognizes achievement for art direction in film. The category's original name was Best Art Direction, but was changed to its current name in 2012 for the 85th Academy Awards. This change resulted from the Art Directors' branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) being renamed the Designers' branch. The Revenant (2015 Film)
''The Revenant'' is a 2015 American epic western adventure film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The screenplay by Mark L. Smith and Iñárritu is based in part on Michael Punke's 2002 novel '' The Revenant'', which describes frontiersman Hugh Glass's experiences in 1823, and which is based on the 1915 poem '' The Song of Hugh Glass''. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy. The film is also considered a remake of the film ''Man in the Wilderness'' (1971). In August 2001, Akiva Goldsman purchased Punke's manuscript. Jack Fisk (born December 19, 1945) is an American production designer and director. As a production designer, he is known for his collaborations with Terrence Malick, designing all of his first eight films including ''Badlands'' (1973), ''Days of Heaven'' (1978), '' The Thin Red Line'' (1998), and '' The Tree of Life'' (2011).
