Hamdard (Wakf) Laboratories
Hamdard Laboratories (India) is a Unani pharmaceutical and food company in India. It was established in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in Delhi, and became a waqf (non-profitable trust) in 1948. Some of its most popular products include Sharbat Rooh Afza, Safi, Roghan Badam Shirin, Sualin, Joshina and Cinkara. It is associated with Hamdard National Foundation, a charitable educational trust. History Hamdard Laboratories was founded in 1906 in Delhi by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed and Ansarullah Tabani, who were both Unani practitioners. The name Hamdard (Urdu: ہمدرد) is a Persian word which means "companion in suffering". Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed was born in the city of Pilibhit, in modern-day Uttar Pradesh in 1883 to Sheikh Rahim Bakhs. He is said to have learnt the complete Quran Sharif by heart. Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) Bangladesh is one of the largest herbal pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh. It operates as a philanthropic ''waqf'' (endowment) in which all the company's profits go to a charitable foundation. The company traces its origins to early 20th-century Old Delhi. Hamdard Pakistan, () is a Pakistani unani medicine company which is based in Karachi, Pakistan. It was established by Hakim Saeed as Hamdard Laboratories (Waqf) in 1948. History Hakim Abdul Majeed (1883 – 1922) founded an organization called Hamdard Dawakhana in Delhi in 1906. At that time, it was a small clinic and herbal medicine shop. Hakeem Muhammad Saeed
Hakeem Muhammad Saeed (; 9 January 1920 – 17 October 1998) was a Pakistani medical researcher, author, scholar, and philanthropist. He served as governor of Sindh Province from 19 July 1993 until 23 January 1994. Saeed was one of Pakistan's most prominent medical researchers in the field of Eastern medicine. He established the Hamdard Foundation in 1948, prior to his settlement in West Pakistan. In the next few years, the herbal medical products of the Hamdard Foundation became household names in Pakistan. Hakeem Muhammad Saeed authored and compiled about 200 books on medicine, philosophy, science, health, religion, natural medicine, literature, social issues, as well as travelogues. Hakeem Abdul Hameed
Hakim Abdul Hameed (; 14 September 1908 – 22 July 1999) was an Indian physician of the traditional medicine system of Unani, the founder chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, and a former chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. His ancestors came from Kashgar (now Kashi, Xinjiang, China) to the Indian subcontinent, in the reign of the Mughal emperor, Shah Alam. He was the founder and chief trustee of Hamdard Laboratories. He was honoured by the Government of India in 1965, with the award of Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award and in 1992, the government awarded him the third highest Indian honour of Padma Bhushan.
