Hamburg-Altona Link Line
The Hamburg-Altona link line () is a railway line in Hamburg, Germany. Nowadays, it connects the lines from the north and northwest of Hamburg and Hamburg-Altona station, Altona station with Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and the lines to the southwest, south and east. Initially designed as a freight line only, it is now one of the busiest lines in Germany. It includes the suburban tracks of the Hamburg ''Stadtbahn'', originally the core of the Hamburg S-Bahn. History The first railway connection In 1842 the Hamburg-Bergedorf Railway Company opened a 16.5 km line from Hamburg to Bergedorf. In 1846 Berlin–Hamburg Railway, this line was extended to Berlin. Alster
The Alster () is a right tributary of the Elbe river in Northern Germany. It has its source near Henstedt-Ulzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, flows somewhat southwards through much of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and joins the Elbe in central Hamburg. The Alster is Hamburg's second most important river. While the Elbe river is a tidal navigation of international significance and prone to flooding, the Alster is a non-tidal, slow-flowing and in some places, seemingly untouched idyll of nature, in other places tamed and landscaped urban open space, urban space. Berlin S-Bahn
The Berlin S-Bahn () is a rapid transit railway system that services the reigon in and around Berlin, the capital city of Germany. It has been in operation under the name since December 1930, having been previously called the special tariff area ('Berlin city, orbital, and suburban railways'). It complements the Berlin U-Bahn and is the link to many outer-Berlin areas, such as Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Schöneweide–Spindlersfeld Branch Line
The Schöneweide–Spindlersfeld branch line is a branch line of the Berlin–Görlitz railway, which is entirely in Berlin. The four kilometre long line runs from a junction next to Schöneweide station to two other stations and is served by the Berlin S-Bahn at 20-minute intervals. Route The line begins at Schöneweide station (originally called ''Niederschöneweide-Johannisthal'') and separates from the main line and turns to the east. Lübeck–Hamburg Railway
The Hamburg–Lübeck railway is one of the most important mainline railways of the German states of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg. It connects the two Hanseatic cities of Hamburg and Lübeck, and is part of the line to Denmark. The line was opened in 1865.
