The Leibniz Institute DSMZ - German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures GmbH (German: ''Leibniz-Institut DSMZ-Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen GmbH''), located in Braunschweig, is a research infrastructure in the Leibniz Association. Originally a culture collection for microbes (DSM), the DSMZ has expanded to provide cell cultures, online bioinformatic services, and offline analysis services. It also hosts research projects. As of 2021, DSMZ is the world's most diverse collection of bioresources with 75,000 different accessions. These include microorganisms (including more than 32,000 bacterial strains, 690 archaeal strains, 7,000 strains of yeasts and fungi) as well as more than 840 human and animal cell cultures, over 1,500 plant viruses, over 940 bacteriophages, and 250 plasmids (status 2021). Halomonas
''Halomonas'' is a genus of halophilic (salt-tolerating) bacteria. It grows over the range of 5 to 25% NaCl. The type species of this genus is '' Halomonas elongata''. Description Members of ''Halomonas'' are Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacteria, generally 0.6-0.8 μm by 1.6-1.9 μm. They move by using flagella. They grow in the presence of oxygen, although some have been reported to be able to grow without oxygen. When grown on an agar plate, they form white/yellow colonies that turn light brown over time. ''Alcaligenes'' is a genus of Gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria in the order of Burkholderiales, family Alcaligenaceae. History The type species, ''A. faecalis'', was first isolated from stale beer by Johannes Petruschky in 1896. However, formal description was only finished in 1919 by Castellani and Chalmers. The name ''Alcaligenes'' has its origin in Arabic and Greek and means "alkali-producing". Several species were previously placed in ''Alcaligenes'', but have since been moved to more appropriate genera. '' A. aestus'', ''A. aquamarinus'', '' A. cupidus'', '' A. pacificus'' and '' A. venustus'' were first reclassified to the genus '' Deleya'' and later merged into ''Halomonas'' in the class of Gammaproteobacteria. Oceanospirillales
The Oceanospirillales are an order of Pseudomonadota with ten families. Description Bacteria in the Oceanospirillales are metabolically and morphologically diverse, with some able to grow in the presence of oxygen and others requiring an anaerobic environment. Members of the Oceanospirillales can be halotolerant or halophilic and require high salt concentrations to grow. While they grow in diverse niches, all Oceanospirillales derive their energy from the breakdown of various organic products.
