Formation Evaluation in Petroleum Engineering is the process of assessing subsurface rock formations to determine their ability to produce oil and gas. It helps identify hydrocarbon-bearing zones, understand reservoir properties, and make decisions about well completion, production, and reservoir management. In petroleum exploration and development, formation evaluation is used to determine the ability of a borehole to produce petroleum. Essentially, it is the process of "recognizing a commercial well when you drill one". The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is an independent agency of the United States government tasked with environmental protection matters.
