The Nova Scotia House of Assembly (; ), or Legislative Assembly, is the deliberative assembly of the General Assembly of Nova Scotia, and together with the lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia makes up the Nova Scotia Legislature. The assembly is the oldest in Canada, having first sat in 1758; in 1848, it was the site of the first responsible government in the British Empire. Bills passed by the House of Assembly are given royal assent by the lieutenant governor in the name of the King of Canada. Originally (in 1758), the Legislature consisted of the Crown represented by a governor (later a lieutenant governor), the appointed Nova Scotia Council holding both executive and legislative duties and an elected House of Assembly (lower chamber). Guy Murray Logan
Guy Murray Logan (February 21, 1899 – October 31, 1986) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of Halifax Centre in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1933 to 1937. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Liberal Party. Logan was born in 1899 at Elmsdale, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He was educated at Dalhousie University, and was a dental surgeon by career. He married Laurie Anderson in 1928. Logan was elected an alderman in Halifax on May 27, 1931. He entered provincial politics in the 1933 election, winning the Halifax Centre riding by 948 votes. Logan did not reoffer in the 1937 election. There have been various groups in Canada that have nominated candidates under the label Labour Party or Independent Labour Party, or other variations from the 1870s until the 1960s. These were usually local or provincial groups using the Labour Party or Independent Labour Party name, backed by local labour councils made up of many union locals in a particular city, or individual trade unions. There was an attempt to create a national Canadian Labour Party in the late 1910s and in the 1920s, but these were only partly successful. The Communist Party of Canada (CPC), formed in 1921, fulfilled some of labour's political yearnings from coast to coast, and then the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) – Worker Farmer Socialist was formed in 1932. William Duff Forrest
William Duff Forrest (June 2, 1874 – September 12, 1939) was a physician and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax Centre in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1937 to 1939 as a Liberal member. He was born in Halifax, the son of the Reverend John Forrest and Annie Prescott Duff. James Edward Rutledge (August 14, 1889 – August 15, 1966) was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1939 to 1956 as a Liberal member. Donald MacKeen Smith (November 26, 1923 – February 16, 1998) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral districts of Halifax Centre and Halifax Citadel in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1960 to 1970 as a member of the Progressive Conservatives. Biography Born in 1923 at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Smith was educated at the University of King's College and Dalhousie University. He served with the 18th Armoured Car Regiment from 1944 to 1945.
