Halifax Black Film Festival
The Halifax Black Film Festival is an annual film festival in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Held in late February or early March each year, the festival programs a selection of African, Caribbean, African American and Black Canadian films. The festival was launched in 2017 by Fabienne Colas. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the festival was staged online in 2021 and 2022, before returning to theatres in 2023. ''The Chronicle Herald'' is a broadsheet newspaper published in Halifax, Nova Scotia, owned by Postmedia Network. ''Being Black in Halifax'' is a Canadian documentary film and television series, which premiered in 2020 on CBC Television and CBC Gem. The COVID-19 pandemic in Nova Scotia is an ongoing viral pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a novel infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). On March 15, 2020, three presumptive cases in Nova Scotia were announced. All three were travel-related. The province is amongst four provinces in the Atlantic Bubble, along with New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador which have reported a significantly smaller portion of cases during the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. Fabienne Colas
Fabienne Colas Joseph, (born March 18, 1979), is a Haitian-Canadian actress, Theatre director, director and Theatrical producer, producer. She is head of the Fabienne Colas Foundation, which is dedicated to the promotion of film, art and culture as it organizes many festivals. Fabienne is also a recipient for the 2018 Canada's 40 under 40 award. She was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in December 2024. She lives in Carignan, Quebec.
