Halberg Castle
Halberg Castle (german: Schloss Halberg) is a German castle built between 1877 and 1880 on Halberg mountain near Saarbrücken. The castle is located in the area of the former municipality of Brebach, which was merged with Fechingen to form Brebach-Fechingen in 1959 and incorporated into Saarbrücken in 1974. The castle complex, which was designed by the architects Edwin Oppler and Ferdinand Schorbach for Carl Ferdinand von Stumm-Halberg, is the second largest neo-Gothic secular building in Saarland after the St. Johann Town Hall despite renovations and partial demolition after World War II. History Monplaisir At the beginning of the 18th century, Louis Crato, Count of Nassau-Saarbrücken had a small baroque '' lustschloss'' (pleasure palace) called "Monplaisir" built between 1709 and 1711 at Halberg, from designs by Joseph C. Louis, Prince of Nassau-Saarbrücken (3 January 1745 in Saarbrücken – 2 March 1794 in Aschaffenburg) was the last ruling prince of Nassau-Saarbrücken. He ruled from 1768 until the French Revolution. Life Louis was born in Saarbrücken as the second child and first son of William Henry of Nassau-Saarbrücken and his wife Princess Sophie of Erbach-Erbach. Like his father, he was educated at the University of Strasbourg. His Grand Tour led to England (from 1759 to 1766), and the Netherlands, France, and Germany. On 30 October 1766 Louis married at Schwarzburg Castle to Princess Wilhelmine of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1751–1780). Schloss Jägersberg (german: Schloss Jägersberg)( en, Jägersberg palace) was a baroque Schloss in Neunkirchen in Saarland, Germany. It served as a hunting lodge and summer palace for the princes of Nassau-Saarbrücken. Designed by architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel in 1752, it was destroyed between 1793 and 1822. Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt was a small historic state in present-day Thuringia, Germany, with its capital at Rudolstadt. History Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt was established in 1599 in the course of a resettlement of Schwarzburg dynasty lands.
