Taylor Small
Taylor Small (born March 26, 1994) is an American politician. She is a member of the Vermont House of Representatives. Early life Small was born in Portland, Maine to Canadian parents. She lived in Johnson, Vermont, and then Western Massachusetts as a child. She returned to Vermont with her mother upon her parents' divorce and attended Colchester High School and Burlington Technical Center. She then went on to graduate from the University of Vermont in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Sexuality and Gender Identity Studies. Career Small was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in the 2020 general election after the incumbent Diana Gonzalez retired and is the state's first openly transgender legislator, and the fifth in the nation. The Vermont Democratic Party is the affiliate of the Democratic Party in the U.S. state of Vermont. From the time of the American Civil War until the 1960s, Vermont was an almost exclusively Republican state, with Republicans dominating Vermont politics, especially the governorship, from 1854 to 1960. The 2022 Vermont House of Representatives election took place on November 8, 2022 as part of the biennial United States elections. The election coincided with elections for other offices including the U.S. Senate, U.S. House, Governor, and State Senate. Vermont voters elected all 150 state representatives from 109 districts, with each district electing between one and two representatives. State representatives served two-year terms. A primary election was held on August 9, 2022, and it determined which candidates appear on the November 8 general election ballot.
