Hakam Balawi
Hakam Umar As‘ad Balawi (; 1938 – 28 November 2020) was a Palestinian politician and a member of the Palestinian National Authority cabinet and the Palestinian Legislative Council. Early life and education Balawi was born in the town of Bal'a, near Tulkarm in British Mandate Palestine in 1938. He had diplomas in administration, journalism and education. Career Balawi was the deputy head of the central information committee of Fatah from 1968 to 1978. His political career began when he was assigned as the Palestine Liberation Organization's ambassador to Libya from 1973 to 1975, after which he became a staunch Fatah activist and then was the PLO's ambassador to Tunisia from 1983 to 1994. Yasser Arafat assigned Balawi the cabinet post of Interior Minister of the Palestinian National Authority in November 2003. His tenure lasted until 24 February 2005 when a new cabinet formed. Bal'a
Bal'a () is a Palestinian town in the Tulkarm Governorate, located approximately nine kilometers northeast of Tulkarm in the northern West Bank and three kilometers away from the highway connecting Tulkarm with Nablus. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the town had a population of approximately 6,604 in 2007 and 7,822 in 2017. In 1870/1871 (1288 AH), an Ottoman census listed the village in the ''nahiya'' (sub-district) of Wadi al-Sha'ir. In 1882, the PEF's Survey of Western Palestine (SWP) described Bal'a as a "good-sized village on very high ground, with magnificent groves of olives to the west, and supplied by cisterns. It is apparently an ancient site, having rock-cut tombs." Salah Al-Zawawi or among Iranians Salah Zawawi (; 1937 – February 20, 2023) was born in Palestine and was the ambassador of the Palestinian government in Iran. He was the second ambassador of Palestine in Iran after Hani al-Hassan and held this position from February 1981 to 2022. He is one of the founding members of the Fatah movement and the former Palestinian ambassador to Algeria, Brazil and Kenya.
