Haixia (ferry)
Haixia () is a Ro Ro ocean ferry linking Pingtan Island in Fujian, China to cities in Taiwan. The first ship, '' Hai Xia Hao'' (海峡号) made its maiden voyage in November 2011, sailing out of Aoqian Wharf in Pingtan to Taichung. In 2013, the Taiwanese ship ''Li Na Hao'' (麗娜號) entered service and a new route to Taipei was opened in 2013. In 2019, Haixia opened a passenger-cargo service linking Pingtan and Kaohsiung. The ferry services were suspended in February 2020 as part of COVID-19 pandemic control measures. Roll-on/roll-off
Roll-on/roll-off (RORO or ro-ro) ships are cargo ships designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, motorcycles, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, buses, Trailer (vehicle), trailers, and railroad cars, that are driven on and off the ship on their own wheels or using a platform vehicle, such as a self-propelled modular transporter. This is in contrast to lift-on/lift-off (LoLo) vessels, which use a crane (machine), crane to load and unload cargo. RORO vessels have either built-in or shore-based Linkspan, ramps or ferry slips that allow the cargo to be efficiently rolled on and off the vessel when in port. Pingtan Island
Pingtan Island or Haitan Island is an islands of China, island of Fuzhou off the east coast of mainland Asia in Pingtan County, Fujian Province, China (PRC), south of the complex estuary of the Min River (Fujian), Min River. It is the largest island in Fujian and the fifth-largest island administered by the People's Republic of China. History In June 1955, there was considerable road and military construction around Haitan Island, including roads leading to possible artillery positions on the mainland. These positions might have been used to protect the Haitan Strait, which was thought of as a favorable staging area for amphibious operations against the Matsu Islands. ''The Cat'' is a passenger / vehicle ferry operated by ''Bay Ferries Limited'' between Yarmouth and Maine.The vessel is a high speed catamaran built by the Tasmanian shipbuilder Incat.
