Haitian Bridge Alliance
The Haitian Bridge Alliance is a US nonprofit working on behalf of Haitian and other black immigrants to the United States. They have offices in San Diego, CA and Tijuana, Mexico. It was founded by Pethou Archange and Guerline M. Jozef. Ms Jozef is the current director. In 2022, the Alliance sought to end Title 42, a US policy that, during a health emergency, "allows border officials to expel migrants back to Mexico or their home countries without offering them the opportunity to be screened for asylum eligibility." The policy has since been terminated due to the end of the COVID-19 emergency. The Alliance has also created a fund to pay the bond of black migrants, such as Haitians, who are in immigration detention. Guerline Jozef
Guerline Jozef is a Haitian-American activist who is co-founder and the executive director of the nonprofit Haitian Bridge Alliance. Biography Jozef had initially worked in audio-visual entertainment. After learning about a group of Haitians looking for asylum at the United States border in 2015, she changed her career and decided to work with the migrant population. Jozef founded the Haitian Bridge Alliance, the only Black-led, woman-led, Haitian-American-led organization serving migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. Jozef also co-founded the Black Immigrants Bail Fund and the Cameroon Advocacy Network. Jozef's work focuses on migrants of African Descent. In 2021, Jozef won the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award. She chose to have the ceremony at the border, where she called for an end to Title 42 expulsion. Starting in September 2024, false claims spread online saying Haitian Americans, Haitian immigrants were stealing and eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. The claims began with a local Facebook group post claiming a neighbor's daughter's cat had been butchered, and spread quickly among Far-right subcultures, far-right and neo-Nazi groups.
