''Hairway to Steven'' is the fourth studio album by American experimental rock band Butthole Surfers, released in April 1988. All songs were written by Butthole Surfers, co-produced by Butthole Surfers and Ric Wallace, and mixed by Wallace. The album was recorded at January Sound Studio in Dallas. The album was originally released on Touch and Go, and was reissued on Latino Buggerveil in 1999. Some of its tracks make allusions to famous musicians, such as Julio Iglesias. "Stairway to Heaven" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin, released on 8 November 1971 on the band's untitled fourth studio album (commonly known as ''Led Zeppelin IV''), by Atlantic Records. Composed by the band's guitarist Jimmy Page with lyrics written by lead singer Robert Plant, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest rock songs of all time. King Coffey
King Coffey (born Jeffrey Coffey; 1964) is an American drummer, known for being the drummer of the Psychedelic rock, psychedelic/noise rock band Butthole Surfers. He began drumming in a Fort Worth, Texas, Fort Worth Hardcore punk, hardcore punk band called The Hugh Beaumont Experience in high school. Around that same time, he also published a fanzine called ''Throbbing Cattle''. He saw the Butthole Surfers for the first time in 1982 at a time when Scott Matthews was their drummer. Coffey replaced him in 1983 and is still the band's official drummer. In 1990, Coffey founded the independent record label Trance Syndicate, and released records by primarily Texas-based artists, including his band Drain (noise rock band), Drain. Gibson Jerome Haynes (born September 30, 1957) is an American musician, radio personality, painter, author and the lead singer of the band Butthole Surfers. Early life and career Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Gibby Haynes is the son of actor Jerry Haynes, best known as Dallas-based children's TV host " Mr. Peppermint," and Doris Haynes. His great-uncle was Fred E. Haynes Jr., a decorated U.S. Marines Corps major general. Jeff Pinkus
Jeff "J.D." Pinkus (born October 26, 1967) is an American bassist best known for his work with Butthole Surfers from 1985 to 1994 and since their 2009 reunion. In 1990, he and Butthole Surfers' lead vocalist Gibby Haynes released '' Digital Dump'', the only album from their psychedelic house music side project The Jackofficers. Upon leaving Butthole Surfers, Pinkus worked full-time with the Austin trio Daddy Longhead, which he had assembled during his waning months in the band, and which included longtime Atlanta associate Jimbo Young on guitar and Rey Washam on drums. Daddy Longhead retired after 10 years, leaving Pinkus free to explore other projects including Skinny Leonard and Areola 51.
