Haik (garment)
The haik ()() is a traditional women's garment worn in North Africa. It can be white or black, though is usually white. It consists of a rectangular fabric covering the whole body, in length, rolled up then held at the waist by a belt and then brought back to the shoulders to be fixed by fibulae. Etymology The word is borrowed from the Maghrebi Arabic word , which comes from the Arabic verb which means "to weave". First used in French in the form (1654), it underwent many variations (1667), (1670), (1670), (1683), (1686). The word in French was at first of the feminine gender (1725) and became masculine in 1830. Origins and description The haik is of Arab- Andalusian origin, and present throughout the Maghreb. Ted Haik
Theodore Michael Haik Jr., known as Ted Haik (born April 8, 1945), is an attorney in New Iberia, Louisiana, who was a Democratic member of the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1976 to 1996. He represented House District 49, which includes portions of Iberia, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes. He is the older brother of U.S. District Judge Richard T. Haik of Lafayette and Suzanne Haik Terrell of New Orleans, the last Louisiana elections commissioner who served from 2000 to 2004 and the unsuccessful Republican candidate in the 2002 U.S. Senate race against the incumbent Democrat Mary Landrieu. Haik Nikogosian (born 1955) is an Armenian physician, politician and a public and global health expert. Nikogosian was founding chairman of the National Institute of Health of Armenia from 1992 to 1994, and served as the Armenian minister of health from 1998 to 2000. He held managerial positions with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe from 2000 to 2007, and was head of noncommunicable diseases and lifestyles for part of that time. He was the founding head of the secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control from 2007 to 2014, and was designated as head, emeritus, of the secretariat by the decision of the Conference of the Parties in 2018. Jacques Haïk
Jacques Haïk (20 June 1893 – 31 August 1950) was a French film producer. Born of Jewish descent in French-controlled Tunisia, he moved to Paris where he found work in the film industry, introducing Charlie Chaplin to French audiences. He gradually built up a chain of cinemas including the Grand Rex (1931), and established his own production company Les Établissements Jacques Haïk which was very active during the early 1930s. Following the introduction of sound film he made several French-language films at the Twickenham Studios in the United Kingdom until his Paris studios were equipped for sound production. Haïk was Jewish. Following the outbreak of the Second World War he produced the anti-Nazi '' My Crimes After Mein Kampf'' and supported the Free French. Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura
Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura (née Vantoura; 13 July 1912 – 22 October 2000) was a French organist, music teacher, composer and music theorist. Her main work was in the field of musicology. Personal life Vantoura was born in Paris on 13 July 1912. In 1931 Vantoura started studying at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, (CNSMDP), and in 1934 earned a First Prize in Harmony. Four years later, she was awarded a First Prize in Fugue (1938). She was a pupil of the well-known organist and composer Marcel Dupré from 1941 to 1946. During World War II, Vantoura and her family fled from the Nazis to southern France. There she studied the cantillation marks (also melodic accents or '' ta'amim''), in the Hebrew Bible (Masoretic Text), forming the basic hypothesis of her system for decoding the Masoretic cantillation. Haik Hovsepian Mehr (; January 6, 1945, Tehran – January 19, 1994) was an Iranian Armenian Protestant Minister (Christianity), minister and bishop of the ''Jama'at-e Rabbani'' church (part of the Assemblies of God church movement). After the Iranian Revolution, Islamic Revolution of 1979, he was one of the few Christian leaders to continue to evangelize. In 1994, he disappeared after protesting the Iranian government's treatment of converts to Christianity and is generally assumed to have been murdered by the state. The state, however, accuses the People's Mujahedin of Iran for his murder. Early life Hovsepian was born in 1945 in Tehran, Iran into an Armenian Apostolic middle-class family. Miss Teen USA 2015 was the 33rd Miss Teen USA pageant. It was held at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, The Bahamas on August 22, 2015, and was hosted by Miss USA 2013 Erin Brady and television writer Nick Teplitz.
