''Hacks'' ( ''Sink or Swim'' and ''The Big Twist'') is a 1997 American comedy film written and directed by Gary Rosen. The film premiered at the AFI Los Angeles Film Festival. Plot Brian is a television writer-producer who is working on creating a 22-episode show, but has writer's block and needs inspiration. He teams up with a group of writer friends to write about a sexual encounter he watches on a balcony. He witnesses a strange romantic encounter between two figures on the balcony of a hotel near his flat and decides to write scripts with his writer friends based on what he saw. Glenn Rockowitz (born May 27, 1970) is an American writer, filmmaker, comedian and voice actor. He lives in Seattle, Washington. Education and early career Rockowitz was born in Plainview, New York. Rockowitz spent the first eight years of his life in New York City (NYC). He left NYC to move to Phoenix, Arizona, where he graduated from Arcadia High School in 1988. During high school, he served as class president. He then attended the University of Arizona, in Tucson, and then performed with the Second City in Chicago. After Second City, Rockowitz worked as a stand-up comedian based in Boston and New York, traveling across the US. In 1994 he became a writer for NBC's ''Saturday Night Live''. ''Hacks'' is an American comedy-drama television series created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky that premiered on May 13, 2021, on HBO Max. Peter Hacks
Peter Hacks (21 March 1928 – 28 August 2003) was a German playwright, author, and essayist. Hacks was born in Breslau (Wrocław), Lower Silesia. Displaced by World War II, Hacks settled in Munich in 1947, where he made acquaintance with Thomas Mann and Bertolt Brecht. Hacks then followed Brecht to East Berlin in 1955. However, a continued cooperation between him and Brecht did not arise. From 1960 Hacks worked as a dramaturge at the Deutsches Theater (DT) in Berlin. When the staging of his play "Die Sorgen und die Macht" (1962) sparked criticism from officials, he gave up his position as a dramaturge at the DT and lived again as a freelance writer. His success on the world stage – most notably with "Ein Gespräch im Hause Stein über den abwesenden Herrn von Goethe" (A Discussion in the Stein Home about the Absent Mr. Goethe) – led to his literary acceptance within GDR and West-Germany.
