HRCP
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP; ) is an independent, democratic non-profit organisation. Founded in 1987, it is one of the oldest human rights organisations in the country. HRCP is committed to monitoring, protecting and promoting human rights in Pakistan. It is not associated with the government or with any political party. Mission HRCP's goal is to realise the entire body of human rights, as defined in international instruments, by all citizens of Pakistan as well as all persons present otherwise in the country. This goal applies without any distinction or discrimination on grounds of gender, race, belief or religion, domicile, disability, socioeconomic status, and sexual identity or orientation. It applies particularly to vulnerable or disadvantaged groups, such as women, children, members of ethnic and religious minorities, workers, peasants and victims of human rights abuses. Ibn Abdur Rehman
Ibn Abdur Rehman, also known as I.A. Rehman (1 September 1930 – 12 September 2020) was a Pakistani peace and human rights advocate, a veteran communist and a journalist. Early life and education Rehman was born on 1 September 1930 in Pataudi State, British India (present day Gurgaon district, Haryana, India). He grew up in both a "religious and secular" household, and his father and grandfather were landowners. When partition of India happened in 1947, he was still studying at Aligarh Muslim University. He reportedly lost many relatives in the riots that followed the partition in his region of birth. He survived because he was away from the region as a student. Then he moved to Pakistan and was able to finish his MSc. degree in Physics from the University of the Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan. Career I. A. The Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) reviously known as Forum-Asiais a membership-based regional human rights organisation with 85 member organisations in 23 countries across Asia. It is committed to the promotion and protection of all human rights including the right to development. FORUM-ASIA was founded in 1991 in Manila, The Philippines and opened its Regional Secretariat in Bangkok in 1992. Subsequently, offices have also been opened in Geneva, Jakarta and Kathmandu. Women in Pakistan are as diverse as the country's population in terms of culture, religion, social status, political and community participation at local, national and global platforms. The socio-political and cultural factors including a prominent rural urban divide significantly shape the status of women across the region. Women in Pakistan make up 48.76% of the population according to the 2017 census of Pakistan. Women in Pakistan have played an important role in Pakistani history and have had the right to vote since 1956. Religious Discrimination In Pakistan
Religious discrimination in Pakistan is a serious issue for the human rights situation in modern-day Pakistan. Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Shias, and Ahmadis among other religious minorities often face discrimination and at times are even subjected to violence. In some cases Christian churches and the worshippers themselves have been attacked. Although, there is very little record of this. Khawaja Nazimuddin, the 2nd Prime Minister of Pakistan, stated: "I do not agree that religion is a private affair of the individual nor do I agree that in an Islamic state every citizen has identical rights, no matter what his caste, creed or faith be". One of the significant issues being faced by minority communities is the abuse of the blasphemy law. Asma Jilani Jahangir (; 27 January 1952 – 11 February 2018) was a Pakistani human rights activists, human rights lawyer and activism, social activist who co-founded and chaired the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and AGHS Legal Aid Cell. Jahangir was known for playing a prominent role in the Lawyers' Movement and served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief and as a trustee at the International Crisis Group. Born and raised in Lahore, Jahangir studied at the Convent of Jesus and Mary, Lahore, Convent of Jesus and Mary before receiving her Bachelor of Arts, B.A. from Kinnaird College, Kinnaird and LLB from the Punjab University Law College in 1978 and joined the chamber of Barrister Ijaz Hussain Batalvi.
