HMS Phoebe (1795)
HMS ''Phoebe'' was a 36-gun fifth rate of the Royal Navy. She had a career of almost twenty years and fought in the French Revolutionary Wars, the Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812. Overall, her crews were awarded six clasps to the Naval General Service Medals, with two taking place in the French Revolutionary Wars, three during the Napoleonic Wars and the sixth in the War of 1812. Three of the clasps carried the name ''Phoebe''. During her career, ''Phoebe'' sailed to the Mediterranean and Baltic seas, the Indian Ocean, South East Asia, North and South America. Once peace finally arrived, ''Phoebe'' was laid up, though she spent a few years as a slop ship during the 1820s. She was then hulked. The Admiralty finally sold her for breaking up in 1841. Thomas Whitcombe
Thomas Whitcombe ( – ) was an English painter who specialised in marine art. Among his work are over 150 actions the Royal Navy participated in during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and he exhibited his works at the Royal Academy, British Institution and Royal Society of British Artists. Whitcombe's pictures are highly sought after today. Life Thomas Whitcombe was born in London between 1752 and 19 May 1763, with the latter date frequently cited. Little is known of his background or training, although speculation based on the locations depicted in his paintings may provide some clues. It is known that he was in Bristol in 1787 and later travelled to the South Coast; there are few ports or harbours from this region that do not feature in his work. In 1789 he toured Wales and in 1813 he travelled to Devon, painting scenes around Plymouth harbour. Admiral (Royal Navy), Admiral Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth, Order of the Bath, GCB (19 April 1757 – 23 January 1833) was a Royal Navy officer and politician. This is a list of lords commissioners of the Admiralty (incomplete before the Restoration, 1660). The lords commissioners of the Admiralty were the members of the Board of Admiralty, which exercised the office of Lord High Admiral when it was not vested in a single person. Samuel Pechell
Rear-Admiral Sir Samuel John Brooke Pechell, 3rd Baronet, (1 September 1785 – 3 November 1849) was a Royal Navy officer and politician who served in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. His most important achievements were made while serving as a Lord of the Admiralty, pioneering the science and instruction of rapid and accurate gunnery in the Royal Navy through training facilities and manuals. In addition to his work at the British Admiralty, Pechell served in the House of Commons for two constituencies and was on good terms with King William IV, who supported his efforts to improve standards of gunnery and returned him to the Admiralty in 1839 after a five-year absence caused by his support for the Whig government. Robert Barlow (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral Sir Robert Barlow GCB (25 December 1757 – 11 May 1843) was a senior and distinguished officer of the British Royal Navy who saw extensive service in the American Revolutionary War, the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. He made his name in small ship actions, especially fighting French frigates, of which he captured three.
