HMS ''Clyde'' was a submarine of the . She was built by Vickers Armstrong, Barrow and launched on 15 March 1934. Building was completed on 12 April 1935.GB Mason, HMS ''Clyde'' at naval-history.net Initially planned to be part of a class 20 strong, ''Clyde'' would be the third and final of the boats to be completed and launched. Operational history ''Clyde'' commissioned in 1935 and the outbreak of the Second World War found her in the Mediterranean Sea with the 1st Submarine Flotilla stationed at Malta. In September 1939 she was transferred to West Africa, stationed at Freetown, to act as convoy escort guarding against surface raiders. In January 1940 she returned to home waters and was employed on interception patrols in the North Sea. Victory over Japan Day (also known as V-J Day, Victory in the Pacific Day, or V-P Day) is the day on which Imperial Japan surrendered in World War II, in effect bringing the war to an end. The term has been applied to both of the days on which the initial announcement of Japan's surrender was made – 15 August 1945, in Japan, and because of time zone differences, 14 August 1945 (when it was announced in the United States and the rest of the Americas and Eastern Pacific Islands) – as well as to 2 September 1945, when the surrender document was signed, officially ending World War II. 15 August is the official V-J Day for the United Kingdom, while the official US commemoration is 2 September. Kilindini Harbour is a large, natural deep-water inlet extending inland from Mombasa, Kenya. It is at its deepest center, although the controlling depth is the outer channel in the port approaches with a dredged depth of . It serves as the harbour for Mombasa, with a hinterland extending to Uganda. Kilindini Harbour is the main part of the Port of Mombasa, the only international seaport in Kenya and the biggest port in east Africa. It is managed by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA). William Hedley Kett, DSC and Bar (28 July 1913 – 28 June 2014) was a British submariner who commanded two ships during the Second World War. Early life Kett was born at Ponders End, Lea Valley, London on 28 July 1913. He was a descendant of Robert Kett, who had led Kett's Rebellion in 1549. Brought up and educated at Blackheath, Hedley Kett first went to sea as a deck apprentice with the Bolton Steamship Company, and was later with the Glover Brothers company. His ship, the tanker ''Romney'', was requisitioned by the Admiralty during the Spanish Civil War, making Kett part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and in 1938 he joined the Royal Naval Reserve. He was second officer of RFA ''Arndale'' at the outbreak of the Second World War, and became her gunnery officer. He returned to Britain, and was called up for service in November 1939. Action In Tarrafal Bay
The Action in Tarrafal Bay (or Tarafal BayBlair, Clay, ''Hitler's U-Boat War Vol I '' (1996). ) was a naval engagement which took place during the Battle of the Atlantic in the Second World War. It was notable in that the four vessels involved were all submarines. The Naval Intelligence Division had solved a message intercepted from U-boat '' U-111'' that was returning to France, concerning a rendezvous with '' U-67'' and '' U-68'' in the Bay of Tarrafal on the island of Santo Antão.
