HFStival
The HFStival is an annual Washington, D.C. / Baltimore rock festival. It was held every summer from 1990 through 2006 by radio station WHFS. It was held again in 2010 and 2011 in commemoration of the now-defunct station's legacy. At its peak, the HFStival was the largest yearly music festival on the East Coast, drawing 55,000 to 90,000 people. It was held at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, D.C. from 1993 to 2004; at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore in 2005; and at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland, in 2006. WHFS (historic)
WHFS was the call sign for three successive Frequency modulation, FM stations in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore markets that broadcast on various frequencies for nearly 50 years. The first station in the area to broadcast in FM stereo, it was a long-time progressive rock (radio format), progressive rock station. History 1960s WHFS began broadcasting on November 12, 1961, on 102.3 FM in Bethesda, Maryland. Its call sign stood for "Washington High Fidelity Station" (and later as "Washington High Fidelity Stereo) advertising that it was the first station in the Washington metropolitan area to broadcast in FM stereo. It was originally located in a space in the basement of the Bethesda Medical Building on Wisconsin Avenue with its antenna on the roof. Northwest Stadium is an American football stadium in Landover, Maryland, U.S., located east of Washington, D.C.. It is the home stadium of the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). From 2004 until 2010, it had the NFL's largest seating capacity at 91,000 and currently seats 62,000. M&T Bank Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It has been the home of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL) since its opening in 1998. Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. MHz Networks is an American broadcaster that specializes in international television programming.
