HD 11964
HD 11964 is a binary star system located 110 light-years away from the Sun in the celestial equator, equatorial constellation of Cetus. It is visible in binoculars or a telescope but is too faint to be seen with the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 7.51. The system is drifting closer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −9 km/s. Two extrasolar planets have been confirmed to orbit the primary. Properties The primary, component A, is a G-type main-sequence star with a stellar classification of G9VCN+1. The suffix notation indicates an overabundance of the cyano radical in the stellar spectrum, spectrum. Houk and Swift (1999) found a class of G8IV, suggesting it is instead a more stellar evolution, evolved subgiant star. Eta2 Hydri is a star in the southern constellation of Hydrus. The name is Latinized from η2 Hydri and often catalogued as HD 11977. It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of +4.68, and is one of the least variable stars known. The distance to Eta2 Hydri is approximately 221 light-years based on parallax measurements, but it is drifting closer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −18 km/s. The stellar classification of Eta2 Hydri is G8IIIb, which indicates this is a evolved giant star. It is located in the clump zone of the HR diagram, which means it has already ascended the red giant branch and is now generating energy by core helium fusion surrounded by a hydrogen fusing shell. HD 11964 c is an extrasolar planet approximately 110 light-years away in the constellation of Cetus. The planet was discovered in a close-orbit around the yellow subgiant star HD 11964. The planet has a minimum mass 35 times the mass of Earth and is located in a mildly eccentric orbit which takes almost 38 days to complete. HD 11964 c was a possible planet discovered on the same day as HD 11964 b in 2005. HD 11964 c was first proposed in a paper published in 2007, and finally confirmed with new data presented in a review of multi-planet systems which appeared on the arXiv preprint website in 2008. A red dwarf is the smallest kind of star on the main sequence. Red dwarfs are by far the most common type of fusing star in the Milky Way, at least in the neighborhood of the Sun.
