HB Ice Cream
HB Ice Cream (originally an initialisation of both Hughes Brothers and Hazelbrook Farm) is an ice cream brand in Ireland and is part of the Unilever Group's Heartbrand ice cream brand. It manufactures most of the Heartbrand's ice cream range, as well as some products designed exclusively for the Irish market, including the Hazelbrook Farm range of blocks of ice-cream. Vanilla comes in Blue, Mint Choc in Mint Green, Honeycomb in Honey colour, Banana in Yellow-Brown colour, Strawberry and Rasberry Ripple in Pink, Caramel in Caramel colour and various. In Northern Ireland, both HB and Wall's ice-cream (the UK variant of the Heartbrand) are available, and in recent years have been promoted together as HB Wall's. Miko (ice Cream)
Miko is a French ice cream brand and company owned by the Unilever group, originally created by Luis Ortiz in Saint-Dizier in the 1920s. History Miko's origins lie in the emigration of the Spanish Ortiz family to France in the 1920s. Some settled in 1919 in Deauville and Trouville where they created Glaces Pompon. One of their cousins, Luis Ortiz (1889–1948), born in San Pedro del Romeral, established himself as a traveling merchant in Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne) in 1921. He drives his street vendor's cart there to sell his roasted chestnuts, complementing this activity by making ice cream. At the same time, the American Christian K. Wibbly Wobbly Wonder
The Wibbly Wobbly Wonder was an ice cream on a stick which was marketed in Ireland in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. It was made by HB Ice Cream, having been conceived in 1974 as a cost saving measure by Gerry Keegan, an accountant at the company at the time. It was taken off the market in the late 1990s, before being made and marketed again briefly as part of HB's 80th anniversary celebrations in 2006. The lower half of a Wibbly Wobbly Wonder was divided between pink strawberry and yellow banana flavoured ice cream, with the upper half consisting of frozen yellow lemon jelly, coated in chocolate. Golly Bar
Originally launched in 1957 by HB Ice Cream (HB), the Golly Bar is an ice cream formerly sold exclusively in the Republic of Ireland. It was a single rectangular block of vanilla ice cream on a wooden stick. The packaging of Golly Bars depicted an image of a golliwog, a 19th-century caricature of a blackface minstrel, which is now regarded as racist. The golliwog image was removed from the packaging in 1992. However, continued concern from the manufacturers over any racist connotations saw a name change to the Giant Bar.
