HAU2
The Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) is a German theater company and international performance center in Berlin. It has three physical locations (HAU1, HAU2, and HAU3), and a digital theatre (HAU4). History HAU was founded in 2003, before the 2003/04 season,by combining three theaters in Kreuzberg, Berlin: Hebbel Theater (now called HAU1), Theater am Halleschen Ufer (theater at Hallesches Ufer) (now called HAU2) and Theater am Ufer (now called HAU3). The founding artistic director was Matthias Lilienthal until July 2012, when he was succeeded by the Belgian Annemie Vanackere. Annemie Vanackere is artistic director of HAU. Locations HAU1 is at the old Hebbel Theater at Stresemannstr. 29; HAU2 is at Hallesches Ufer 34; and HAU3 at Tempelhofer Ufer 10, Berlin. HAU4 is a digital space, online. Milo Rau
Milo Rau (born 1977) is a Swiss theatre director, journalist, playwright, essayist, and lecturer. In 2007 he founded a theatre and film production company, the International Institute of Political Murder (IIPM), and from 2018 until 2023 was the artistic director of the Belgian theatre group NTGent, in Ghent, transforming its direction. He is known for his political theatre. Early life and education Milo Rau was born in 1977 in Bern, Switzerland. His father's Jewish family moved from Germany to Switzerland to escape the Nazis shortly before World War Two, while his mother, surnamed Larese, had Italian origins. His parents divorced when he was about two years old. Until he was 18, his name was Milo Larese, but then he decided his name was too romantic, so he took the father's family name Rau. Kreuzberg
Kreuzberg () is a district of Berlin, Germany. It is part of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg borough located south of Berlin-Mitte, Mitte. During the Cold War era, it was one of the poorest areas of West Berlin, but since German reunification in 1990, it has undergone significant gentrification and is now known for its vibrant arts scene. Hebbel Theater
The Hebbel-Theater (Hebbel Theatre) is a historic theatre building for plays in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Germany. It has been a venue of the company Hebbel am Ufer (HAU) from 2003. The theatre, with approximately 800 seats, was built by Oskar Kaufmann in 1907/08 in Jugendstil. The corner building is integrated into the row of houses. It was an early and unique work by the theatre architect, and established his fame as a master theatre builder who then created five more theatres in Berlin. The Hebbel-Theater thrived in the 1920s. Annemie Vanackere
Annemie Vanackere (born 1966 in Kortrijk) is a Belgian festival curator and theatre director. Since 2012, she has been the artistic director and managing director of the Hebbel am Ufer Theatre in Berlin. Life Vanackere studied theatre and cinema for one year in Leuven and philosophy in Leuven and Paris. where she also attended seminars by Jacques Derrida at the Sorbonne.
