Background and concept The press release for ''H.A.Q.Q.'' describes the record as "a consolidation of the band's sound to date," as well as "Liturgy’s most vulnerable record for Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, addressing anger and struggles around mental health, sexuality, and religion." The album title is an acronym for ''"Haelegen above Quality and Quantity"''. Liturgy is an American black metal band from Brooklyn, New York. The band have described their music as "transcendental black metal," which was especially described in a manifesto written by founding member Haela Hunt-Hendrix; in the process of transforming their style of black metal, they have experimented with other genres including progressive rock, hip hop and electronic music.
