Güzel İstanbul
''Güzel İstanbul'' (''Beautiful Istanbul'') is a concrete public sculpture of a nude female figure by Gürdal Duyar that is located in Yıldız Park in Istanbul, Turkey. The sculpture was commissioned in 1973 as one of 20 sculptures installed in Istanbul as part of an initiative by the Istanbul Municipality to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. ''Güzel İstanbul'' represents Istanbul as a nude female figure; its plinth was adorned with figurative motifs referencing the history of Istanbul. ''Güzel İstanbul'' was originally located at Karaköy Square. Several Turkish media outlets and traditional conservative politicians considered the sculpture obscene and called for its swift removal. In March 1974, a controversy surrounding the sculpture's installation temporarily strained Turkey's governing coalition. Yıldız Park
Yıldız Park () is a historical, urban park in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the largest public parks in Istanbul. The park is located in Yıldız, Beşiktaş, Yıldız quarter between the palaces of Yıldız Palace, Yıldız and Çırağan Palace, Çırağan. History Yıldız Park was once part of the imperial garden of Yıldız Palace. Extending down the slopes from the palace, this walled park was reserved only for palace dwellers during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. The area of Yıldız used to be a forest in Byzantine Empire, Byzantine times. Starting during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, the sultans made it their hunting grounds. Şadi Çalık
Şadi Çalık (1917 – 24 December 1979) was a Turkish sculptor. He is famous for his abstract sculpture. Çalık was born in Heraklion, on the island of Crete, in 1917. In 1923, during the Population exchange between Greece and Turkey, he moved to İzmir with his family. Between 1932 and 1939, he worked in the atelier of the painting teacher Abidin Elderoğlu in İzmir on drawing. In 1939, he started in the Sculpture Department of the Fine Arts Academy of Istanbul. In 1940, he created the first piece that was ordered from him, "Atbaşları". With many busts, he created, he showed that he could do quality work quickly and with ease. Seyhun Topuz
Seyhun Topuz (born 1942) is a Turkish sculptor who works in a geometric abstract narrative. Life and works Topuz was born in 1942 in Balikesir and attended Law School. When her second academic year started she stopped with Law School and started to study for the Art School exams. She was accepted to the State Fine Arts Academy, MSGSÜ, and graduated from its Higher Sculpture Department. Between 1974 and 1978 she worked as an assistant in that same department. Nusret Suman
Nusret Suman (21 March 1905, Veria – 15 August 1978, İzmit) was a Turkish sculptor and painter. He worked especially on portraits and monuments. His last work is the Hittite Sun Course Monument, which was the symbol of the city of Ankara in the past. Life Suman was born in Veria close to Thessaloniki in 1905. His father, İsmail Hakkı Bey, was an officer in the Ottoman Army. His mother, Naciye Hanım, was the first Turkish photographer. Füsun Onur
Füsun Onur (born 1938) is a Turkish artist, based in Istanbul. She uses everyday materials in her painting and sculpture to reflect on space, time, rhythm and form. Early life and education Onur was born in Kuzguncuk, Istanbul. She attended the Department of Sculpture at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, where she was a student of Ali Hadi Bara. Yavuz Görey
Yavuz Görey (27 August 1912 – 1995) was a Turkish sculptor. Life Yavuz Görey was born in Geneva, Switzerland on 27 August 1912. He is the brother of graphic artist İhap Hulusi Görey (1898–1986). After attending the primary and middle school at Lycée Saint-Joseph, Istanbul and Galatasaray High School, he graduated in 1929. He studied mathematics at University of Liège. He took painting lessons at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp), Antwerp Fine Arts Academy in Belgium. He completed his higher education at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul Fine Arts Academy, where he was a student in Namık İsmail's studio for a year, in 1940. Ali Teoman Germaner (1934 – 23 February 2018), was a Turkish sculptor. He is also known as Aloş. Life He was born in 1934 in Istanbul. Zerrin Bölükbaşı (1919–2010) was a Turkish sculptor. She was of the first Turkish female sculptors, and the first woman sculptor to work on abstract sculptures. Tamer Başoğlu (born 1938) is a Turkish sculptor. Early life and education He was born in 1938 in Nazilli. In 1960, he graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy. Kuzgun Acar
Abdülahet Kuzgun Çetin Acar (28 February 1928 – 4 February 1976) was an Afro-Turk sculptor well known for his works in metal. He is best known for his abstract sculpture, abstract sculptures and is considered one of the pioneers of modern sculptures in Turkey. One of his famous sculptures is ''Kuşlar'' ("The Birds"), which he created in 1967.
