Günter Harder Stadion
The Günter Harder Stadion was an multi purpose stadium in Neubrandenburg, Germany. The stadium was located on the eastern outskirts of the town, between the Demminer Straße and the Alfred-Lythall-Straße. The speedway team MC Neubrandenburg raced at the stadium and were champions of East Germany in 1988. History The stadium was built in 1949 (in East Germany) and held first division football games. It received the name the Günter Harder Stadion in 1951, in honour of Günter Harder, a maritime police officer who was shot dead on 24 March 1951. He served as a symbolic figure in East Germany. SC Neubrandenburg played many fixtures at the stadium, including during the 1963–64 season, which resulted in promotion to the top division of East German football the following year, the (1964–65 DDR-Oberliga). Neubrandenburg (, Low German ''Niegenbramborg'', both lit. ''New Brandenburg an der Havel, Brandenburg'') is a city in the southeast of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is located on the shore of a lake called Tollensesee and forms the urban centre of the Mecklenburg Lake District, Mecklenburg Lakeland. 1964–65 DDR-Oberliga
The 1964–65 DDR-Oberliga was the 16th season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of league football in East Germany. The league was contested by fourteen teams. National People's Army club ASK Vorwärts Berlin won the championship, the club's fourth of six national East German championships all up. Bernd Bauchspieß of BSG Chemie Leipzig was the league's top scorer with 14 goals, becoming the first player to finish as top scorer on three occasions. For the third time the title East German Footballer of the year was awarded, going to Horst Weigang of SC Leipzig. On the strength of the 1964–65 title Vorwärts qualified for the 1965–66 European Cup where the club was knocked out by Manchester United in the first round. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand).
