Göygöl (lake)
Göygöl () is a natural lake in Azerbaijan. It is situated at the footsteps of Murovdag, not far from Ganja in the Goygol District. The lake is 0.78 km² and is 1553.3 metres above sea level. Its length from south to north is 2800 metres, and its maximum width is 800 metres. History Due to an earthquake which hit the area on 25 September 1139, parts of the Kapaz Mount collapsed and blocked the path of the Kürəkçay River. As a result of diversion of water flow, a lake with pure mountain water was created. Hence, the name given, signifying the pureness of the water. The nearby city of Khanlar was renamed after the Göygöl Lake on 25 April 2008. The city was founded as Helenendorf by the first German settlers in Azerbaijan in 1819 and with a considerable German minority until 1941 had been renamed to Khanlar in 1938. A landslide dam or barrier lake is the natural damming of a river by some kind of landslide, such as a debris flow, rock avalanche or volcanic eruption. Göygöl National Park
Göygöl National Park () — is a National Parks of Azerbaijan, national park of Azerbaijan. It was established in an area in Goygol Rayon administrative district on April 1, 2008, on the basis of the former "Goy Gol State Reserve" that was established in 1925 and which it superseded, on a surface area of . It was enlarged from of the former state reserve to its current surface area as a national park. The park is the most visited in the country. The national park includes one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in Azerbaijan, Lake Göygöl. The reserve is intended to protect the natural ecosystem of the subalpine zones of the northern slopes of the Lesser Caucasus. During the Soviet era, it had been deprived of its reserve status, but was restored later. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces () is the military of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It was re-established according to the country's Law of the Armed Forces on 9 October 1991. Trout
Trout (: trout) is a generic common name for numerous species of carnivorous freshwater ray-finned fishes belonging to the genera '' Oncorhynchus'', ''Salmo'' and ''Salvelinus'', all of which are members of the subfamily Salmoninae in the family Salmonidae. The word ''trout'' is also used for some similar-shaped but non-salmonid fish, such as the spotted seatrout/speckled trout (''Cynoscion nebulosus'', which is actually a croaker). Qaragöl () or Keren () is a village in the Zangilan District of Azerbaijan. History The village was located in the Armenian-occupied territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, coming under the control of ethnic Armenian forces during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in the early 1990s. Goygol ( , ) (Yelenino in 1931–1938, Khanlar in 1938–2008) is a city, municipality and the capital of the Goygol District in northwestern Azerbaijan. It is around south of Azerbaijan's third-largest city, Ganja, Azerbaijan, Ganja. The city of Goygol has a population of 37,200 (est. 2010).
