Gérald Poussin
Gérald Poussin (born 1946) is a Swiss artist, illustrator, painter, sculptor, animator and comics artist. Biography Poussin was born on 13 August 1946 in Carouge, Switzerland. He was involved in the animated films ''Trou attention'' (1970), ''Colonel Zabu'' (1970), ''Alphon au pays des merveilles'' (1972), ''La Nuit des Ploucs'' (1977), and ''Téo Véra change de monde'' (1979). Two of his films were presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1971; he then set himself up as a cartoonist in Paris, working for a number of newspapers, including ''Hara-Kiri (magazine), Hara-Kiri'', ''Zinc'', ''Charlie Hebdos'', ''L'Echo des Savannes'', ''Le nouvel Observateur'', and ''Libération''. Carouge
Carouge () is a municipality in the Canton of Geneva, Switzerland. History Carouge is first mentioned in the Early Middle Ages as ''Quadruvium'' and ''Quatruvio''. In 1248 it was mentioned as ''Carrogium'' while in the 14th Century it was known as ''Quarrouiz'' or ''Quarroggi''. In 1445 it was mentioned as ''Quaroggio''. The current city was built by Victor Amadeus III of Sardinia, King of Sardinia and Duke of Savoy, starting in 1760–70. It obtained the status of city in 1786. Carouge was taken by revolutionary France in 1792, apparently with considerable local support. During the Napoleonic wars, in 1814 Carouge was reincorporated into the Kingdom of Sardinia following a brief occupation by Austria. Swatch is a Swiss watch, Swiss watchmaker founded in 1983 by Ernst Thomke, Elmar Mock, and Jacques Müller. It is a subsidiary of The Swatch Group. The Swatch product line was developed as a response to the "quartz crisis" of the 1970s and 1980s, in which inexpensive, battery-powered, quartz-regulated watches were competing against more established European watchmakers, focused on artisanal craftsmanship producing mostly mechanical watches. The name Swatch is a contraction of "second watch", as the watches were intended as casual, disposable accessories. New Era Building (New York City)
The New Era Building is an 1893 Art Nouveau commercial loft building at 495 Broadway, between Spring Street and Broome Street, in the SoHo section of Manhattan in New York City. Architecture The eight-story brick and masonry building has been described as a "gem" and a "gorgeous example" of Art Nouveau architecture. Eschewing the then-popular Beaux Arts style, this is one of the few and possibly the earliest Art Nouveau building in Manhattan still standing. Four squat rounded Doric columns seem to support five stories with three vertical rows of large windows separated by brickwork and iron ornamentation, culminating in three large arches at the sixth floor.
