Gyula Maár
Gyula Maár (2 August 1934 – 20 December 2013) was a Hungarian film director and screenwriter. He directed 25 films between 1966 and 2007. His 1975 film, '' Mrs. Dery Where Are You?'' won the award for Best Actress ( Mari Törőcsik) at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival. In 1986, his film '' Első kétszáz évem'' was entered into the 36th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1993, his film '' Whoops'' was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. Whoops (film)
''Whoops'' () is a 1993 Hungarian comedy film directed by Gyula Maár. It was entered into the 43rd Berlin International Film Festival. Elementary satire on the Hungarian regime change. Every sentence is spot on. Even though Ede and Kati hated the previous system, they can't help themselves in the new one. In addition, a woman named Elvira turns up and tells him that she has a forty-one-year-old son, whose father is Ede. Set in the nineties, the main characters Ede, the husband (Dezső Garas), and Kati, the wife (Mari Törőcsik), are in their sixties. They spent their youth and working years under the Kádár regime, where they were assigned the role of the "patsy", and this has not changed since the regime change. The flag still flies for the former cadre brother-in-law. Their usual daily arguments and grumbling continue as they have done for decades. The 36th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held 14–25 February 1986. The festival opened with '' Ginger and Fred'' by Federico Fellini, which played out of competition at the festival. The Golden Bear was awarded to West German film '' Stammheim'' directed by Reinhard Hauff. The retrospective was in honour of German actress and film producer Henny Porten and the homage was dedicated to American film director Fred Zinnemann. The 29th Cannes Film Festival took place from 13 to 28 May 1976. American author Tennessee Williams served as jury president for the main competition. American filmmaker Martin Scorsese won the Palme d'Or, the festival's top prize, for the drama film ''Taxi Driver''. A new non-competitive section, ''L'Air du temps'', focused on contemporary subjects was introduced. This section, along with sections ''Les Yeux fertiles'' of the previous edition were later integrated into ''Un Certain Regard'' section in 1978.
