Pétur Guðmundsson (basketball)
Pétur Karl Guðmundsson (born 30 October 1958) is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach from Reykjavík. Standing 2.18 m (7'2"), weighing 118 kg (260 lb) and playing the center position, Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in National Basketball Association (NBA). He was also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team from 1978 to 1992 but missed several years due to FIBA rules banning professional players from playing for national teams. Arinbjörn Guðmundsson (22 May 1932 – 2014) was an Icelandic and Australian chess player, Chess Olympiad individual medalist (1960). Biography Arinbjörn Guðmundsson learned to play chess late at the age of seventeen. However, he achieved good results in chess tournaments and was one of Icelandic leading chess players from 1955 to 1970. In 1954, together with Friðrik Ólafsson and other Icelandic chess players, Arinbjörn Guðmundsson founded the first chess magazine in the country. He has regularly participated in Icelandic Chess Championships and Reykjavik International Chess tournaments (1955, 1957, 1960, 1964). Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson (born 27 October 1990) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays as a winger for club Burnley and the Iceland national team. Jóhann began his senior career at Breiðablik for a single season before moving to Dutch team AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie where they also participated in the Europa League. Tómas Guðmundsson
Tómas Guðmundsson (6 January 1901 – 14 November 1983) was an Icelandic writer. He was known as Reykjavík's poet ''(Reykjavíkurskáldið, skáld Reykjavíkur)''. Tómas's parents were Steinunn Þorsteinsdóttir and Guðmundur Ögmundsson, living at Efri-Brú in Grímsnes. He soon got in touch with literature and poetry. He read Icelandic sagas, Jónas Hallgrímsson's poems and more. He also started to write his own poetry at a young age. Career He moved to Reykjavík and studied at Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, there he got in touch with many authors, including Halldór Laxness (they formed a close friendship during the M.R. years), Guðmundur G. Páll Guðmundsson
Páll Guðmundsson (; born 1959 in Húsafell in the west of Iceland, where he still lives) is a sculptor and artist. He has done part of his studies at the University of Fine Arts in Cologne, Germany. Mostly, he sculptures faces of people out of the rock he finds around Húsafell. He has for example sculptured the faces of Johann Sebastian Bach, Björk and the Icelandic writer Thor Vilhjálmsson. Páll is also working as a musician with a unique idiophone, a large xylophone-like instrument made of stones called the ''Steinharpa''.
