Guy Morrison Bryan
Guy Morrison Bryan (January 12, 1821June 4, 1901) was a U.S. Representative from Texas. Biography Bryan was born in Herculaneum in the Missouri Territory on January 12, 1821. His family moved to the Mexican State of Texas in 1831, and settled near San Felipe. The extended Bryan family later settled in Brazoria County, and his parents operated a sugar plantation called Peach Point. Guy Bryan attended the private school of Thomas Pilgrim in Columbia, Texas, joined the Texas Army in 1836, and took part in the Texas Revolution. In 1842 Bryan graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. He studied law, but never practiced, instead becoming a sugar planter in Brazoria County. His college classmates included Rutherford B. Hayes, and Hayes visited Bryan at his plantation in 1848. Bryan served in the Mexican–American War as a private in the Brazoria company commanded by Captain Samuel Ballowe. Brazoria County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the county was 372,031. The county seat is Angleton. Brazoria County is included in the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan statistical area. It is located in the Gulf Coast region of Texas. Regionally, parts of the county are within the extreme southernmost fringe of the regions locally known as Southeast Texas. Brazoria County is among a number of counties that are part of the region known as the Texas Coastal Bend. Its county seat is Angleton, and its largest city is Pearland. The 1856 Democratic National Convention was a presidential nominating convention that met from June 2 to June 6 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was held to nominate the Democratic Party's candidates for president and vice president in the 1856 election. The convention selected former Secretary of State James Buchanan of Pennsylvania for president and former Representative John C. Breckinridge of Kentucky for vice president. Incumbent Democratic President Franklin Pierce's standing with the public had been badly damaged by "Bleeding Kansas," the civil strife in Kansas Territory over slavery. Quintana is a town in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. Its population was 26 as of the 2020 census, down from 56 at the 2010 census. Geography Quintana is located in southern Brazoria County on Quintana Beach along the Gulf of Mexico. It is bordered by the city of Surfside Beach to the northeast, across the entrance to Freeport Harbor, and by the city of Freeport to the southwest in the area of Bryan Beach. Paul Octave Hébert (December 12, 1818 – August 29, 1880) was a soldier and politician who served as List of Governors of Louisiana, 14th Governor of Louisiana from 1853 to 1856. A veteran of the Mexican–American War, Mexican-American War, he later served as a Brigadier General (CSA), brigadier general in the Confederate States Army.
