Gutter Snypes
Gutter Snypes are a British hip hop group who formed in 1993. The group was composed of Cel One, Sigher (Russell Paine) and Prime Cuts. Previously the Cel One had recorded under the name Most Dominant for the Kold Sweat Records label, with DJ First Rate and DJ Renegade (Son of Noise). Prior to this, Cel One and First Rate had been part of the First Down Crew in Kent. In 1993, the group met Johnny F and started recording with Liberty Grooves. This union would lead to the Trials Of Life EP in 1994. Three versions of the EP were recorded (regular, radio edits and instrumental) and it even gained the attention of Nellee Hooper who sampled it on the track Inside Of Me for the 1994 LP ''Bedtime Stories'' by Madonna. Solid N Mind
Solid n Mind (formerly Solid State) were a British hip hop group that formed in 1989. The group was composed of Whirlwind D (Dudley Jaynes) and Johnny F. Biography Previously, Johnny F had hosted radio shows and was a record dealer, whilst Whirlwind D had been working with the fledgling Kold Sweat Records label. In Spring 1990, having recorded a couple of tracks ("An Original Break" and "Centre Stage"), the Liberty Grooves label was conceived. Reaching number 3 in the Tower Records Dance Chart in December 1990, "An Original Break" would mark the beginning of Liberty Grooves. "An Original Break" sampled "Big Beat" and "Rupert The Bear" amongst other things in order to take a sarcastic look at the lack of originality in sampling at the time. DJ Noize
Kim Sæther (born 1975 at Lille Skensved, near Køge), better known as DJ Noize is a Copenhagen-based Danish hip-hop- DJ. His company, Noizeworks places all his activities under one moniker. Career DJ Noize started scratching in his local youth club at the age of 13 getting his own pair of Technics 1210 turntables at the age of 15. DJ Noize won Danish master titles in 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 2000 and the New Music Seminar DJ Battle (then called "Clark Kent's Superman Battle for World Supremacy" and MC'd by DJ Clark Kent) in New York City against DJ 8-Ball in the summer of 1994 – the first white non-American to ever win. Scratch Perverts
The Scratch Perverts are a collective of turntablist DJs from London, formed in 1996 by Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and DJ Renegade. World DMC team champions in both 1999 and 2001. Additionally Prime Cuts won 2 consecutive ITF World Scratching titles, first beating A-Trak in Hawaii in 1999 and then defending the title in Los Angeles the following year. Plus One won the Vestax battle in 2000, then the World DMC title in 2001. Their technical contributions include the 'feedback' technique, inspired by Jimi Hendrix. They have now retired from competition and gone on to regular live DJing, touring and holding a residency at Fabric in London. They have also gone on to produce their own music. Kold Sweat Records
Kold Sweat Records was a British independent record label specializing in hip hop music, based in Askew Road, London. The label was founded in 1990 by Tony Powell, who was the Managing Director, CEO at MCA Records between 1987 and 1992. Upon leaving MCA, Powell created Kold Sweat which was considered as a small project specific to the hip hop genre. He later employed Angelo Starr as recording engineer who was brother to the late Edwin Starr. The label had originally been created as an alternative to directly address the growing and popular trend of the emerging new and unsigned British rap acts throughout the UK. Liberty Grooves
Liberty Grooves was a hip hop record label and shop based in Tooting, South London and owned by Johnny F. It was most active during the 1990s, and the shop served as a performance venue as well. Records were released on this label by groups including Solid n Mind and Gutter Snypes, and the artist DJ Noize. History The Liberty Grooves label was established in 1990 with the release of Solid n Mind's debut single "An Original Break". This was followed up with the Brit Core styled ''Code of Conduct EP'' by True Style. In 1992, The Hip Hop Shop in Tooting opened its doors. Nellee Hooper (born Paul Andrew Hooper on 15 March 1963) is a British record producer, remixer and songwriter known for his work with many major recording artists beginning in the late 1980s. He also debuted as a motion picture music composer with Scottish composer Craig Armstrong and Marius De Vries for the soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann's '' Romeo + Juliet'' in 1996.
