Gus Wingfield
Gus Wingfield (born September 17, 1926) is a former one-term Arkansas State Treasurer, and two-term Arkansas State Auditor, 1994–2003. He served as treasurer from 2003 to 2007. Early life Wingfield was born in Antoine, Arkansas and went to a public school in the nearby town of Delight, Arkansas. He served in the Air Force, and is a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. After the Korean War he attended college at the Southern Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas, and later went to the University of Arkansas. Business career Wingfield became a respected employee at the Bank of Delight, where his savviness and intelligence, as well as his well connected family, helped him quickly rise the ranks. In 1968, he was hired as Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors. He went on to hold that position for over 22 years, until he retired to serve as State Auditor. Antoine, Arkansas
Antoine is a town in Pike County, Arkansas, United States, along the Antoine River. The population was 117 according to the 2010 census. Geography Antoine is located at (34.036183, -93.421787). It is located on hills immediately west of the Antoine River. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 km (0.5 mi), all land. Elevation is above sea level. History The town of Antoine began as a stopping point on the old Southwest Trail to Texas in the early 19th century. It was named for a French trapper who was found dead at his camp along the road (the site of the present town cemetery). The only identification found on the man was his first name, "Antoine". He was buried on the hill by the river and the gravesite became a landmark for travelers. Eventually, the name was given to the river and to the town that grew up beside it. Bobby Tullis
Robert Wayne Tullis (born 1950/51) is an American politician of the Libertarian Party. He is a former mayor of Mineral Springs, Arkansas, serving from 2015 to 2019, and a former member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, serving from 1979 until 1993. Biography Tullis was born to Denzil Tullis and Nina Whitmore Tullis. He served in the House from 1979 until 1993 as a Democrat, representing the 86th district, which comprised parts of Howard and Sevier counties. In 1994, Tullis mounted a campaign for Arkansas State Auditor, losing narrowly in the Democratic primary to Gus Wingfield. In 2010, he was the Green Party nominee for Arkansas State Treasurer, losing to Democratic incumbent Martha Shoffner. The same year, Tullis ran for mayor of Mineral Springs. While he finished in first place with 46% of the vote, since he did not attain a majority a runoff election was necessary, which he lost.
