Guoxing Huang
Guoxing Township () is a rural township in Nantou County, Taiwan. As of February 2023, the township has a population total of 17,168. Guoxing Township is located about east of central Taichung City. Townships are the third-level administrative subdivisions of County (Taiwan), counties of the Taiwan, Republic of China (Taiwan), along with County-administered city, county-administered cities. Nuomi Bridge
Nuomi Bridge ( zh, t=糯米橋, p=Nuòmǐqiáo, l=sticky rice bridge), alternatively the Nuomishih Bridge ( zh, t=糯米石橋, labels=no) or the Beigangxi Stone Bridge ( zh, t=北港溪石橋, labels=no), is a masonry arch bridge in Guoxing, Nantou County, Taiwan. Completed in 1940, the bridge spans the Beigang River, one of the headwaters of the Dadu River, near Beigang Village. The bridge is known for its use of sticky rice mortar and is a protected monument in Nantou County. History Before the Nuomi Bridge was built, a simple wooden bridge existed near the site. During Japan's rule over Taiwan, the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service wished to shorten the transportation time between its two airfields in Tōsei (now Dongshi) and Hori (now Puli), so a road was built transversing through the mountainous terrain. Nantou County
Nantou is the second largest County (Taiwan), county of Taiwan by area, located in the central part of the country. It is also the only non-coastal county in Taiwan. Koxinga
Zheng Chenggong (; 27 August 1624 – 23 June 1662), born Zheng Sen () and better known internationally by his honorific title Koxinga (, from Taiwanese: ''kok sèⁿ iâ''), was a Southern Ming general who resisted the Qing conquest of China in the 17th century, fighting the Qing dynasty on China's southeastern coast. Born in Kyushu, Japan to a Chinese father and a Japanese mother, Zheng rose through the Ming court via the imperial examinations and was serving as a '' Guozijian'' scholar in Nanjing when Beijing fell to rebels in 1644. He swore allegiance to Longwu Emperor, who favored and granted him the royal surname Zhu in 1645, a name he proudly used instead of his native Zheng surname for the rest of his life, hence popularizing his aforementioned honorific name. Peng Pai-hsien
Peng Pai-hsien (; born 14 June 1949) is a Taiwanese politician. Political career He served in the Legislative Yuan from 1990 to 1997 as a member of the Democratic Progressive Party. Peng was a member of the DPP's Justice Alliance faction until he left the party in 1997 to run for the Nantou County magistracy as an independent. Peng left the legislature on 20 December 1997 to take office as Nantou County magistrate. Nantou County was hit hard by the 1999 Jiji earthquake, and in November 2000, Peng was charged with corruption while the Nantou District Prosecutors' Office investigated financial improprieties in the aftermath of the rescue effort. Peng was indicted in January 2001, but returned to his duties as magistrate. The Supreme Court halted appeals on the case in July 2010, ending legal proceedings against Peng. National freeway 6, also known as Shuishalian Freeway or Central East-West Freeway, is a freeway between Wufeng, Taichung and Puli, Nantou, and all of the main line was already open to traffic on 21 March 2009. The freeway runs parallel with provincial highway 14 for most of its length. Length The length is about 37.6 km between Wufeng, Taichung and Puli, Nantou. Exit List Background Its construction began on 25 March 2004. On 27 January 2008, the main line between Ailan IC and Puli terminal was open to traffic. Then, the main line between Wufeng JCT and East Caotun, Nantou, Caotun IC, and the East Caotun connection way were open to traffic on 27 December 2008.
