Gunpowder Tea
Gunpowder tea (; pronounced ) is a form of tea in which each leaf has been individually rolled into a small pellet. Its English name comes either from some resemblance of the pellets to gunpowder, or from a phrase in Chinese that phonetically resembles the word "gunpowder". This rolling method of shaping tea is most often applied either to green tea (the most commonly encountered variety outside China) or to oolong tea. Gunpowder tea production dates back to the Tang dynasty (618–907). Leaves being processed into gunpowder tea are withered first, then steamed, rolled into pellet shape, and dried. Although the individual leaves were formerly rolled by hand, today all but the highest grades of gunpowder teas are rolled by machine. Rolling renders the leaves less susceptible to physical damage during packaging and storage, and allows them to retain more of their flavor and aroma. Dong Ding Tea
Dong Ding (; pronounced ), also spelled Tung-ting, is an oolong tea from Taiwan. A translation of Dong Ding is "Frozen Summit" or "Icy Peak", and is the name of the mountain in Taiwan where the tea is cultivated. Those plants were brought to Taiwan from the Wuyi Mountains in China's Fujian Province about 150 years ago. Origin The Qingxin variety was brought from the Chinese city of Wuyi to Mount Dong Ding about 150 years ago. According to reports, the scholar Ling Fong Chi, while studying in Fujian, brought tea plants to the Meadow as souvenirs for his relatives. Jasmine tea ( or ) is tea scented with the aroma of jasmine blossoms. Jasmine tea can have any base as the tea base; however, green, white tea and black tea are regularly used.
